Chapter 152: Her Frugal Heart Hurt
Using the little of her strength, Leslie reached out for Calix’s arm, weakly grasping his sleeve. He still rested his palm against the back of the wheelchair. Their eyes collided with each other.
Leslie carefully took in Calix’s facial expression imbued with concern. Her gaze fell briefly on the two little moles under his left eye. The glow came from the moonlight and garden lamps illuminating his face.
Pressing her thumb on his arm, Leslie slowly spoke, "You’re worried... about me... I appreciate that... Calix... But, I still want to... see it... I want to... know..."
Considering her weakened condition right now, Leslie understood that she couldn’t do much even if she finally met Calliope. Yet, her longing for her precious daughter had grown too deep.
If possible, Leslie refused to waste any second. Unfortunately, the reality was not as ideal as her wish.
Calix pressed his lips together, seeing the firm resolution glinting in Leslie’s eyes. Despite being in a fragile state, her unyielding determination seeped out through her words and gaze.
Moving his hand away from the back of the wheelchair, Calix gently took Leslie’s. His broad palm enveloped her tiny hand, warming her chilly digits.
"Leslie... are you certain?" hesitating, Calix tried to coax Leslie into pushing the matter away for the time being, "Can’t you wait... at least until you’re half-better?"
Leslie understood that Calix was always being considerate of her well-being. Even though he asked her that, she didn’t sense any threatening pressure coming from him.
Perhaps, it was better if she said he sounded almost begging, much to her helplessness.
Leslie grazed her thumb in the middle of Calix’s palm. Keeping her eyes steady on his concerned ones, she slowly shook her head, causing lights to sway on her face.
