Chapter 114: His Request
“Wasn’t it you and your senior advisors who decided to put a virgin woman on the list of items that I was supposed to purchase at the auction? If I’m not wrong, there wasn’t a spending limit on any of the items that I was tasked to buy,” the prince replied without much care.
“You’re not wrong about that and it’s not the money that I’m concerned about. What is spent is spent,” the king replied.
“Then why are you so adamant in making her an honorable maiden? Don’t we have enough of them already?” the prince asked as his eyes narrowed at his father.
“Well, the same can be said for maids. We have more maids than honorable maidens and I really don’t understand why you would want someone so expensive to be stuck as a maid even if we are talking about a royal maid,” the king pressed as he leaned forward in his seat to return the prince’s stare.
“Mila lacks knowledge and experience required to serve as an honorable maiden. That should be plainly obvious without my explanation,” Prince Leonard continued to argue his case.
I felt extreme uncomfortable as the conversation quickly turned into an argument. The prince’s words were probably true. I didn’t have the qualities that those honorable maidens possess. When I met those women in the garden before, they seemed to shine like jewels and all of them seemed special. I could never be like them. Even though I already knew that, hearing the prince say those words brought an unexplainable tightness to my chest.
“Everything can be learnt, and I believe that Mila has the intelligence to do so. It may take time but with the instructors that we have and with the trainings that we can put her through, I am sure that she can become a respectable honorable maiden,” Prince Darius voiced his opinion.
Prince Leonard shot his brother a deadly look that only said that they would need to have a talk about this later on in private while Prince Darius didn’t seem to have any regrets regarding his words or the side that he was taking in the debate.
“Well, if you’re not interested in her, there is no harm in adding her to the sacred chambers. She can live a better life there,” Prince Darius stated matter-of-factly.
