Chapter 71- The Park
ZARAH~
I sat still with my eyes focused on the card, did I overreact, or was kicking him out prompted? Elliott couldn’t be bothered as he did his homework, crunched on the floor and humming the insufferable song of PJ mask as he scribbled away in his notes.
I rose from where I sat and walked to the window. Nancy would soon be here to watch him and maybe spend the night so I needed to get her room set. I didn’t know the reason for this but all of a sudden the house became choked, Like I was held in confinement by a power I couldn’t understand.
I finished setting up her bed when I heard the doorbell that announced her presence, I was filled with joy, so I skipped to the door and opened it up, welcoming her inside with a smile on my face.
"Good morning Ms Meyers." She greeted them warmly as she entered the living room and immediately went over to where Elliott was. She knelt beside him and inspected what he was doing. They looked cute together, like siblings. Sometimes I wondered how life would have been if I had siblings but those thoughts didn’t really last cause I was so easily pulled back to reality.
Now that she was here to take care of him I could step out for a breath of air and maybe understand this feeling that plagued me, I took a quick shower, dressed up in my favorite casual clothes, a deep blue hoodie with the words ’Survivor’ across its chest and a grey baggy hoodie. I walked to the living room told them I was going out and proceeded to leave. I wanted to take my car but as I reached the handle of the door I paused. The cool breeze blew against me and the warm light of the sun made everything look three times more beautiful, The flowers that overachievers placed on the corridors of their homes, the kids that ran around playing with large excited smiles on their faces, the sidewalk even, with small grass that stuck out of the gaps between the cemented ground, somehow it still looked beautiful.
I took in a deep breath and began to walk the way, aimless as I passed the houses of my neighbors who had no doubt never seen me outside before. After a while I found myself at the community park, It was large, green grass that spread as far as the eyes could see, tall trees that provided shade from the sunlight, and benches close to the ponds and playgrounds, a smile curved my lips as I walked deeper into it as I sat down on one of the benches that faced the ponds The ducks swam through the water, peacefully wagging their tail feathers and moving in unison.
"Do you want a coffee?" I heard someone say from behind me, my head snapped to the direction the voice had come from and I saw a man in his late twenties or early thirties staring back at me, with Jet black scattered hair, piercing grey eyes, and sharp smile, and slightly tanned fair skin, he wasn’t tall, maybe 5’7 or 5’9, just a little taller than me and his clothes indicated that unlike me he was coming from somewhere, Dressed in a blue button up long sleeve shirt that fitted perfectly unto his body, a brown waistcoat with its buttons undone and navy blue trousers, But the thing that stood out the most was his smell, a woody oriental scents with hints of lavender and vanilla, it was intoxicating and honestly, I loved it. He was good-looking but not in an intimidating way like Micheal, Jermaine, or even—Damon.
"Sure." I replied hesitantly as I took the cup from his hand and he proceeded to sit beside me "You smell nice." I complimented them with a warm smile.
