Chapter 135 – Third Zombie King
The morning light softly pierced through the castle window, illuminating the cold, slick black marble floor. The blue flame in the fireplace had died out since the night before, leaving behind faint embers that barely made a sound. Sylvia slowly opened her eyes, letting the silence welcome her awakening consciousness.
No dreams.
She sat up on the bed and let out a quiet sigh. The morning air carried the familiar scent of mushrooms and dew from outside, mingling faintly with the smell of damp earth and metal the scent of a world long destroyed, now trying to rebuild itself. Out there, the world hadn’t stopped spinning, and life continued on in its new form.
With lazy movements, Sylvia rose from the bed. She smoothed her slightly tangled hair and then stood in front of her tall bedroom window. From behind the glass, her eyes looked far toward the settlement slowly stirring to life. Zombies moved in silence some pushing carts filled with building materials, others digging small canals for sewage systems, while others worked on constructing homes with the help of humans.
The city was truly beginning to take shape.
"It’s morning already," Sylvia murmured, touching her fingertip to the cold glass.
She removed her pajamas, revealing a flawless, unscarred figure despite surviving hundreds of battles. Without hurry, she put on the black dress prepared on the chair and walked out of her room. This time, she didn’t use Void Steps she wanted to see with her own eyes how far the construction had come while she was busy hunting down the Zombie Kings.
Her steps took her through ruins and newly erected buildings. In the distance, vast wheat fields glowed golden. Humans with nature-based elements had accelerated the growth using magic to heal the soil and hasten the harvest. Those fields were not just food sources, but symbols of cooperation between two races that once slaughtered each other.
"Maybe I should start implementing an economic system here..." Sylvia whispered. "And Sofia... she must understand this better. She once led a human base, so her insight will be useful."
