Chapter 343: How To Celebrate Christmas this Year
The holiday seasons were rarely enjoyable to Lariette from the year she left Moonville. Even though the Elsher family’s Christmas celebrations were nothing short of extravagance, she wasn’t happy.
The Elsher family often threw two Christmas parties, one for family and relatives while the other was for friends and business acquaintances. Both were not pleasant to Lariette.
As always, her parents and brothers’ focus was only on Stephanie. As if the Christmas celebrations were her birthday party, she was the star, smiling brightly while being showered with lavish gifts and praises.
How about Lariette?
She was merely an afterthought.
The Elsher family did give her Christmas presents, but it was evident everything was bought without much thinking, unlike how carefully they chose gifts for Stephanie.
And when she presented them with the gifts she got for them... to say they had little interest was an understatement. They handed the presents to the maids and she found out later they rarely bothered to open them.
The lack of thought put into her gifts and the lack of interest in the ones she presented them, both played a role in disappointing the teenager Lariette.
When she contemplated silently leaving the party to go to her room or any quiet place, her maternal grandfather saved her from her disappointment. He let her stay by her side as he chatted with their relatives and friends, also talking about her to them.
"Seriously, why did you give Mom and Dad this? Couldn’t you do better?"
Stephanie openly ridiculed Lariette when she took the liberty of opening Samantha and Jonathan’s presents after the party. The mockery in her soft blue eyes was very apparent.
