"...that’s it?"
Blinking, confusion was reflected in Lariette’s eyes. Her baffled countenance was evident under the bright lights hanging on the balcony.
That was the end of the story?
Shouldn’t there be more?
One corner of Ruediger’s lips rose higher than the other. Mischief glinted in his emerald eyes as he understood what caused such a look on Lariette’s face.
Lariette was totally engrossed in Ruediger’s story about the early years he lived in Norvonna. He only shared the good things, leaving the unsavory ones about his exile out.
Ruediger mentioned how good his days were living with Felicia and Madeline. He also included his unlikely friendship with Uncle David before his chance encounter with Nathaniel.
Picking one of the remaining fried wontons, Ruediger said, "That was the day we first met. As for when we really started being acquaintances, you have to wait until our dinner with your grandpa and Nate. He will tell the rest."
"Oh..." Lariette pouted, narrowing her eyes at Ruediger, "That was already thrilling. I didn’t expect you guys to meet because he wanted to save you from the thugs."
According to Ruediger, Nathaniel appeared because he assumed the teenager was in trouble. The man was amazed to see him handling all the hoodlums by himself.
