Chapter 354: Broken Trust
My bare feet ached, the pain of the constant impact to the ground, I could smell the blood oozing out, every sting was enough to get my body quivering. My lungs were collapsing with every gush of air that came off me. I felt like falling but for some reason, I couldn’t stop running even though it was hard to breathe.
My raspy breath filled the area around me, my sobs echoed too, and the endless tears kept coming. I felt devastated, I felt anxiety, I felt guilt. And the thoughts in my head were no better, they were eating me up just as I deserved.
What have I done?
I couldn’t think straight, it jumbled within me ready to ruin me from the inside out, and just like that my legs gave out and I dropped to the ground, with a shuddering breath, whether from the cold night or the pain that shook through me. I felt so cold and all warmth was gone.
It took a minute before I recognized my own wail of cries taking over into the night skies. What I had done was irreversible, I destroyed everything, I broke our bond, the connection was gone, I couldn’t feel him anymore, and it felt like I was a spark of dust ready to be hurled away.
The spell wasn’t meant to rewrite his DNA it was meant to break the connection we had, how could I not have seen that? How did I make that mistake? Where did I go wrong? I only meant to save him and yet I destroyed everything with my own hands. My desperate actions led to this disaster and it was all my own fault.
I was the one who begged him to work with this spell, a spell I thought could lead to his salvation turned into our worst nightmare. The look in Dace’s eyes haunted me, everything that transpired, the blood, the pain, it was sewn into my head and repeated over and over again.
I ran my hand through my hair and gripped it hard. I made sure the spell was the right one, I was completely sure the spell would work, and yet it ruined everything. I made sure to seek help for it so that I wouldn’t make any mistakes. Owen translated the spell for me and-
