Chapter 64: Who do you work for?[GTG]
A porcelain stillness settled over the scene, broken only by the defiant glint in the young woman’s eyes. Her hair, the color of untrodden snow, cascaded down her back, framing eyes that held the fathomless depths of the ocean. "At last," she said, her voice a caress that sent shivers down the young man’s spine. His hazel eyes, flecked with unsettling green, seemed to hold secrets behind their guarded facade.
"Forgive me, but I believe we haven’t had the misfortune of meeting," he countered, his voice betraying a flicker of something akin to awe beneath his carefully constructed mask.
"Don’t play coy," she retorted, a hint of amusement dancing in her eyes. "I’ve been having a delightful chat with your friend, and let’s just say he wasn’t the most forthcoming companion."
The young man’s composure fractured, replaced by a mask of raw terror. "You... you’re the one who took him?" His voice, thick with barely contained rage, echoed in the cavernous hall.
"Took him? Such a harsh term, wouldn’t you agree?" she purred, her lips curving into a cruel smile. Sunlight glinted off the menacing edge of her helbard, a silent threat hanging heavy in the air.
A tsk escaped the young man’s lips, a sound laced with disdain. "Tsk, tsk. Where is he, tell me!" he demanded, his voice hardening into a steely command.
"Safe," she replied, her voice devoid of warmth. "But your well-being should be your primary concern... for now." The last word hung heavy, a chilling promise of things to come. Before he could react, a blinding flash of light erupted from her, engulfing her in a momentary brilliance. By the time it faded, she was a blur of motion, hurtling towards him at breakneck speed.
The young man’s eyes widened in comprehension. With a desperate cry, he threw his arms up in a futile attempt to defend himself. A clang resonated as his hands met an invisible barrier, solidifying into steel at the last moment.
"Transformation, I see," the girl chimed, her voice devoid of amusement. "But unfortunately for you, that won’t be enough." With a single, fluid motion, her helbard flashed. The young man’s scream ripped through the air, a horrifying shriek as both his hands detached from his forearms, leaving clean, horrifying wounds in their wake.
