Chapter 124: Longing for Her to Stay
As the Chinese New Year’s Eve was approaching, the plans to take Jiang An home with him on the first day of the New Year had to be shelved due to the accident. To keep his family from worrying, Gao Chuan had no choice but to lie that he was on a business trip out of town, when in fact he was lying alone in a hospital room, with Jiang An bustling about to bring him meals.
On New Year’s Eve, the whole city was immersed in the festive atmosphere of the celebrations, with pedestrians on the streets rushing home for the family reunion dinner. The Spring Festival Gala was already on, as scheduled, on the hospital’s television, and the relatives of a few patients in the department had brought dumplings to the nurses’ station, leaving Jiang An who was still on duty with a whole box of them.
"Dr. Jiang, we really appreciate your hard work, especially since you can’t go home for the holiday."
Unable to decline, Jiang An gratefully accepted and politely responded with a "that’s alright."
Speaking of not being able to go home for the New Year made Jiang An suddenly think of Gao Chuan, still lying in the hospital room. His examination report had come out yesterday, showing no internal injuries, but the doctors still recommended he stay in the hospital for a few more days.
She had then made rounds in a few other wards. Perhaps due to the New Year mood, everyone, up and down the department, was all smiles, and the patients greeted Jiang An with "Happy New Year" as well.
Seeing that there was nothing urgent in the department, Jiang An, carrying the dumplings, went to the nurses’ station and asked the young nurse, who was eating dumplings and watching the Spring Festival Gala, to keep an eye on things for her, then she headed downstairs to the inpatient department.
When Jiang An entered carrying the food container, Gao Chuan was working on his laptop, the otherwise quiet hospital room filled with the soft sounds of his typing. Dressed in his hospital gown, the man’s quiet demeanor as he pressed the keys, framed beneath a pair of wire-rimmed glasses, added charm to his striking facial features, making for a particularly pleasing sight.
