Did That Doctor Successfully Remarry Today?

Chapter 24 - 23 Little Sister-in-law is Great

Jiang An spent three days straight in the library and barely managed to finish the first draft of her thesis. Sleep-deprived, she briefly looked over it, saved the document, and contentedly closed her laptop. She picked up her cellphone to quickly reply to some messages she hadn’t checked in the last few days. Seeing a message from Shen Mei from yesterday afternoon about sending bird’s nest for her and Gao Chuan, Jiang An hurriedly replied explaining that she hadn’t seen the message at school. After waiting a while without a response, she exited the app and, with heavy dark circles under her eyes, leaned back in her chair and closed her eyes.

Thinking she had stayed at the school for three days and had received no messages from Dr. Gao either, Jiang An assumed everything was fine with the Gao Family. After bringing a pile of material back to her dorm, she left campus, took a taxi, and returned to Dr. Gao’s home.

Guessing Gao Chuan was still at work at this time, she found nobody home when she opened the door, which eased her mind a bit. She returned to her room, took a quick shower, and fell into a deep sleep.

Song Li, who had been incessantly asking about Gao Chuan’s marriage ever since he heard the news, couldn’t meet up with the man involved, so he took matters into his own hands. He brought two bottles of good wine and some groceries and headed over, running into Gao Chuan returning from work just as he arrived at the apartment complex. After greeting each other, they went upstairs together with their items.

"You’re really being unfair, keeping it all secretive without even giving a brother a heads up," Song Li complained, his voice full of dissatisfaction. He and Gao Chuan had grown up together; they were close as life-and-death friends and yet he had to hear about Gao Chuan’s marriage from relatives.

The atmosphere in the elevator was a bit stagnant; Gao Chuan indifferently loosened his tie and responded, "You know now."

Song Li glanced at the man who appeared unconcerned and asked curiously, "How come? I heard from my aunt you married someone from outside our circle? And she’s seven years younger than you? You’ve gotta tell me how you charmed this young lady."

Turning his head, Gao Chuan saw Song Li’s gossip-hungry expression, raised his brows slightly showing his reluctance to entertain him, and walked out of the elevator first as they reached his floor, with Song Li slowly following behind with wine and groceries.

Gao Chuan had been busy with surgeries and hadn’t been home for days. He had naturally assumed Jiang An wouldn’t return today either but realized the door was unlocked when he attempted to open it. Seeing a pair of black canvas shoes on the shoe rack, he was certain Jiang An had come back. Something flickered across his face, and as Song Li followed him inside and switched to slippers, noticing a pair of pink slippers in the shoe cabinet, he teased, "Wow, moved in together so quickly, huh? You’re fast!"
