Chapter 56: Invitation
Qin Jiran thought of Wang Zhilin, and his expression soured. The Wang family had repeatedly troubled him and Yanyi, which was truly annoying. Thankfully, he had almost finished collecting information on the Wang family. If they continued to create trouble without knowing better, they shouldn’t blame him for being ruthless.
Every wealthy family has its secrets and dark history, and the Wang family, with its significant heritage, was full of secrets that couldn’t withstand scrutiny. Nowadays, the Wangs are quite arrogant, handling their affairs without any reserve or caution. They have left traces everywhere, exposed for others to discover. Qin Jiran had already started investigating the Wang family when Su Yanyi told him Wang Zhilin was a bad person. The evidence he held was enough to keep the Wang family busy handling the aftermath if released.
However, Qin Jiran clearly had no intention of doing so, mainly for two reasons. One was the relationship between the Wang and Su families. Although Big Brother Su and Wang Zhirou had divorced, whether it was emotional ties or the grudges between the families, Qin Jiran wasn’t the right person to act against the Wang family. The other reason was that the evidence he held, while sufficient to cause great trouble for the Wangs, wasn’t enough to completely ruin them. Eliminating the problem without removing the root wasn’t his style. If he were to act, he’d wait for an opportunity to ensure the Wang family could never recover.
"Jiran? Are you listening to me?" Without a definitive response, Zhao Lingyu asked with a touch of urgency.
"Yes." It’s not that he wasn’t listening, but should he go or not? Qin Jiran anticipated that there was over a ninety percent chance he would encounter that woman, Wang Zhilin, should he attend. He had promised Yanyi that he wouldn’t have any more contact with Wang Zhilin.
"So, do you agree or not? Everyone is waiting for you. Please don’t really reject the invitation. Ahem, of course, everyone is more looking forward to you bringing your wife. Everybody saw the reports; your wife is no ordinary person, and we would love to meet her," Zhao Lingyu said with genuine envy. Su Yanyi was beautiful, came from an influential family, and was competent. More importantly, she seemed to love Qin Jiran very much. For a man to have such a wife was an incredible blessing.
When he heard the invitation extended to Su Yanyi to attend as well, Qin Jiran was initially set to refuse and nearly swallowed his words but then his eyes brightened slightly, and his expression shifted.
He hadn’t attended such an event with Su Yanyi, especially in front of his friends. He was truly looking forward to it, but would Su Yanyi agree?
The prospect of being surrounded by a crowd, onlookers curious as if they were rare animals, or the same crowd teasing about his relationship with Su Yanyi, made Qin Jiran’s expression change. The anticipation wasn’t so strong anymore. He himself didn’t care, but he didn’t want Yanyi to be unhappy because of it.
