Chapter 20 Along with the Dullness
Although Su Yanyi really wanted to retort loudly, "You're the one who's sick, your whole family is sick!" as a cool and imposing queen, such behavior was clearly inappropriate. So, she just calmly glanced at Qin Jiran, then gave him a stiff back, returning to her bedroom with a cold air!
Even though Su Yanyi and Qin Jiran had been married for three years, it was apparent that they were merely cohabiting under one roof. Both had their own bedrooms and studies, with the spaces clearly divided. When Su Yanyi closed her door, it was as if she had also shut the door on a world where communication with Qin Jiran was possible. Or perhaps, even if they were in the same world, they were incapable of communication!
She had merely wanted to have dinner with Qin Jiran, like a family, to spend more time together, to increase opportunities to understand each other. But why did he conclude that she was sick? Why indeed!
Qin Jiran was also somewhat troubled. Su Yanyi's various odd behaviors were simply too hard to ignore. Now she was talking about being sick and turned to leave, which was even more worrying. She couldn't truly be ill, could she?
After hesitating again and again, and even spending some time in the study looking over a script, considering issues with the new production crew, he still couldn't shake the feeling of unease. His gaze kept drifting toward the direction of the door, wondering whether he should go and inquire about Su Yanyi's condition. If she really was sick, she needed to seek treatment early!
Unable to sit still any longer, Qin Jiran left his study and sat in the small living room outside Su Yanyi's bedroom, holding the script. Though it seemed like he was reading it, he was actually staring at the bedroom door.
He rarely ever knocked on Su Yanyi's door. Knowing that it was something that would annoy her, he naturally wouldn't do it. Since he had moved in three years ago, the villa seemed to have been divided into two areas: places he could go, and places he could not touch. It was like Su Yanyi's heart—an insurmountable distance always lay between them.
Although he always tried his best to treat this place as his home, and worked hard to become a family member to Su Yanyi, even if it wasn't about love, it could be about kinship or friendship. However, he might have been inherently bad at socializing, especially in front of Su Yanyi, where he became even more wooden and clumsy. Neither IQ nor acting skills seemed to make a difference, causing the distance between them to grow farther and farther. Here, he seemed more like a guest, or even an unwelcome one.
Su Yanyi didn't like him, and her aversion seemed to increase over time. He also fled into his work, both for the sake of advancing his career and to keep himself too busy to remember the cold treatment he received here.
