Chapter 415: Welcome Back
Eric took us on a hike, past the old dorms that we had stayed in the first time around, and so far back into the base that it was like we were in a different world.
I really didn’t have any expectations of what the New Dawn Sanctuary looked like. Since it was surrounded by walls so tall that it was impossible to see over, I had just assumed that the dorms were as far as the Sanctuary went, and that the tower was at the heart of everything.
Turned out, I was wrong about that, too.
What I had been exposed to before was nothing more than what they were willing to show the general public.
We entered the first checkpoint, and I let out a huff of irritation. Like it wasn’t bad enough that he had woken me up out of dead sleep and made me walk all this way, now his little friends were making us stand here like idiots while Eric got out paperwork sorted out.
Tank didn’t even so much as look at the expression on my face before he swept me up in his arms and let me cling to his neck. "I’m sorry," he murmured. "I should have been carrying you all this time."
"It’s fine," I replied, my nose and mouth buried against his skin. "I could probably use the exercise."
Tank softly chuckled as the guards in front of us looked at us warily. They were constantly shifting their weight, waiting to either attack us or be attacked, even as they adjusted their grip on their guns.
"If we were a threat, you’d be dead by now," I sighed, not bothering to look at the men. Seriously, I get that I looked like a kid, but Tank was easily twice the size of some of these men.
