Chapter 386: Life In The Apocalypse
It was probably a good thing that I had so much coffee in me; it almost made the walk to our death bearable.
"Daddy," I whined as I ’stumbled’ over a vine. "My feet hurt."
"Suck it up, Princess," said Selene, tightening the knife on my neck slightly. She had traded out the bow and arrow for a very sharp knife. It had managed to cut me a few times now. Never deep enough to cause any sort of damage, but deep enough to draw blood.
And if you thought my men were ferial when Selene first pointed an arrow at me, it was nothing compared to when they could smell my blood.
But it wasn’t just the guys that were starting to become more unhinged, I could have sworn that even the jungle itself was pissed off.
"I don’t want to suck it up," I replied, cocking my head to the side and getting another nick for my troubles. This one was a bit deeper, and the blood was now dripping onto the path, leaving a trail behind us. "I want to be carried. I want Daddy to carry me."
"Ask me if I care about what you want," smirked Selene as she hovered behind me. She was about two feet taller than me, thanks to her weird shoes, and it led to very awkward angles on both our ends. I could barely see the path in front of me, my chin was so far up thanks to her knife, and she was hunched over, affecting her center of gravity.
"Yeah," I agreed, absently nodding my head until I felt yet another cut. "You probably don’t. But if you aren’t careful, you are going to take my head long before we even get to wherever we are going. Then what are you going to do for your pound of flesh? Offer yourself up?"
"You carry her," snarled Selene as she pointed to Chang Xuefeng. He already had two men on either side of him, since he wasn’t overly happy about the whole kidnapping thing. The back fist he did to the first man who tried to tie him up was nothing short of a thing of beauty.
