Chapter 273: Nothing To Worry About
It took longer than it should have until we found a door. In fact, I didn’t know if it actually qualified as a door since it was the only thing standing in a pile of rubble, but I wasn’t actually going to complain.
Dante was the first to try it. Turning the knob, he pushed open the wooden barrier and stepped through. Desire, always the comedic, leaned to the side to see if he could see him going through, but when he gave me the thumbs up, I knew it was fine.
Who knew that a door didn’t need to be attached to something to still be considered a portal to another realm? You really do learn something new every day.
"It’s safe," called out Dante, the door still open. Shaking my head, Tank let us through next and I could finally breathe easy. While it might have seemed like only a day since I was last home, it also felt like forever.
"I’m putting you to bed," announced Tank as he walked over the bridge toward the door. Tink slapped his tail happily, letting me know that he was glad to have me home, and I couldn’t agree more.
"I’m good here for a while," I said softly. Hazel-Anne had pushed me past my comfort zone, and I couldn’t be more grateful for experiencing the Carnival, but now I was happy to veg at home for a while.
I was peopled out.
"Whatever you need," purred Dante as he kissed my forehead. "Unless it involves more men... then we need to have a family conversation."
The look on his face made me want to laugh. They still hadn’t gotten over me calling Harper mine, but he was. Just in a different way.
