Chapter 270: Understand Now?
It took Gideon and his men and the Scavengers who wanted to go with him five days to walk what should have only taken them an hour.
He really didn’t know how it happened or why, but every time he thought he was going in the right direction, he ended up almost on the opposite side of the Region than where he wanted to be. While the days were spent futilely walking, the nights were the worse.
Each one of his men was having the same dreams...
Blood pouring down the walls of the Blackguard Compound while Lucifer’s giggles echoed around them. Everywhere they looked, they could see the bodies of their friends and families being eaten by different Z-packs or mutated zombies.
It got to the point where most of them refused to even close their eyes to blink in fear of seeing their wife or daughter being slaughtered in front of them.
The only ones not affected were Harper and those who stood beside him. They slept the sleep of the dead, waking up every morning happy and alert. Even their backpacks had unlimited supplies in them, so they never had to go hungry.
One of Gideon’s men had tried to steal a protein bar from Harper’s bag, only for it to disintegrate in his hands the second he opened it.
It wasn’t fair, and it was driving Gideon and his men insane. They started carving symbols on their arms, chests, and legs, trying to keep the evil away from them. But no matter how much blood was shed, the dreams returned, worse than the night before.
Finally, having enough, Gideon snapped for Harper to lead them back to the compound, and within thirty minutes, they were at the front door of the gates.
