Chapter 196: Smart Little Zombie
I let the envy demon guide me ever so carefully into her house as the crinoline under her skirts swished back and forth around her legs. I was impressed that whatever illusion I was currently in thought to even add the sounds of small things...
Like the swishing of the skirts.
"Do you know where your mommy is?" asked the woman as she sat me down at the kitchen table. It was a small, four-person round table with a bright yellow tablecloth over the top and plastic yellow chairs.
It definitely wasn’t the most comfortable set that I have ever sat on, but the linoleum floor was a familiar friend. I wonder if you can get the smell of blood and rotting flesh out of it better or if the demon just really wasn’t that good of a housewife.
Really, I might just put it on the demon not cleaning up after herself. I managed to keep Père’s floors clean and smell free just fine.
"Mommy is dead," I sighed, letting my shoulders drop just a bit. I was pretty sure that bitch was still alive and well at the Legislation Compound, but there was always wishful thinking. Besides, if she ever stuck her head out of the ground again, I didn’t mind chopping it off.
"Oh, you poor, sweet soul," purred the demon as she placed a cup of sweet tea on the table in front of me. I stared at the glass and the moisture dripping down the side of it. It was amazing how such a small thing made me think of Elizabeth.
Frig, I missed her.
"It’s okay," I replied, picking up the glass and taking a sip. It was nowhere near as good as Elizabeth’s, but it wasn’t about to kill me.
