Chapter 126: My Landmine
"I need an entrance song," I determined as we walked through the fighter section of Camp Hell. Grown-ass men flattened themselves against the back of their cages, trying to get that much further away from me.
Honestly, it was giving me a complex.
I couldn’t help the slight smirk that played over my face at the looks of fear in their faces. Really. I was half their size and looked like a fucking kid...and yet they were pissing their pants.
"An entrance song?" muttered Chang Xuefeng as he kept his eyes forward. "I don’t understand."
"All the fighters my step stains used to watch on TV had entrance songs when they went to the ring or the octagon. I should have a song like that."
"Has anyone ever told you that your reactions to things aren’t normal?" chuckled Chang Xuefeng under his breath. "You are going into a life or death match; most people would be terrified."
"Terrified?" I repeated, cocking my head to the side as I stared at the Reaver guard guarding the gate between the fighter arena and the pits. "I used to be terrified when I was younger. Then I learned that being scared did nothing but make you tired. Nothing changed just because I was terrified. My Père still beat me, still... Being scared never changed anything."
The guard, scared to turn his back to me in order to make his job easier, took a few minutes to raise the gate, his hands trembling.
"I once heard an interesting question on TV," I continued, turning away from the guard. His terror, while fun at first, was now boring me. "Is it better to be loved or feared?"
