Be Careful What You Wish For: A Zombie Apocalypse

Chapter 30: Decision Made

I must have said the words out loud because all of a sudden, there was silence around me.

"Mmm, jumping clown," I repeated, making my voice sound soft and sleepy.

"So cute," sighed Max, as he nuzzled my forehead with his nose. "Talkin’ in ’er sleep like that. Now, Niblet, no dreamin’ of clowns. Yous dream of your Max, ye ’ear me?"

Letting out a soft moan, I called out Max’s name, like he managed to change my dreams. However, his name let me picture exactly what he was seeing, and I went with it. Anything was better than being in my head at the moment.

The creature deep inside me was awake at the moment and looking for a way out. Refusing to even acknowledge its existence, I focused on what was going on around me.

We were walking down an abandoned street, cars, buses, and bikes scattered around the surface as Max weaved us in and out of traffic. The atmosphere around us was creepy. There was no chirping of insects, no birds calling out to the sun, nothing.

It was so silent that I worried for a second that I might have lost my hearing for some reason.

But even if my hearing wasn’t working, I didn’t need that or my sight to know that we were being watched from multiple locations. The eyes didn’t feel threatening, but that wasn’t exactly a comfort at the moment.

Fighting down the feeling of panic starting to bubble in my chest, I buried my nose in the crook of Max’s neck, taking in his scent. Panic and fear right now was definitely not a good thing.
