Reborn: The Tyrant's Obsession

"From everything you’ve told us about the accident, one thing is obvious. Adrian interceded that truck to save Ella. Am I right?" Ronan asked.

Old Master King and Old Madam King, both had a slight change in their expressions.

Till now, Adrian was fully unconscious and Ella kept drifting in and out of consciousness. The doctors in Ronan’s team were constantly working and the old couple couldn’t stop worrying.

Nobody had a moment to reflect on the details of the accident.

"Yes,’’ Ji Yan nodded. Inwardly, he blamed himself. If he had been capable enough of protecting Ella, then Adrian would not have stepped in.

"Ridiculous!" Old Master King snarled, "My grandson knows his duty as the heir of the King Empire. He has always abided by the protocols and he would never put himself in such a situation knowingly. This is self-destruction and Adrian King would never walk down this path, not for anyone."

Nobody said a word after his outburst because everyone in that scene knew that Adrian would.

Adrian, would in fact destroy himself or anyone, if Ella was harmed in a situation.

Ronan took a deep breath, "I didn’t mean to startle you but I don’t want to hide the truth from you as well. In Adrian’s life, Ella is just as much of a curse as she is a blessing, if not more..."

"Ronan!" Kade interrupted the man. He could see the subtle changes on his grandparents’ face and he had a bad feeling regarding the entire thing.

But Ronan remained unfazed, "I have been trying to prevent such a day from coming but I could never get to the root of why Ella has so much of an impact on someone like Ace, who is not usually moved by anything. Ace’s health has come to this now. As his doctor and friend, it is only right for me to present things as they are."

After saying that, Ronan walked away.

A strange tension blanketed the hallway as every person stood in silence.

Ronan had just passed the hallway when his footsteps came to a halt. He looked at the woman who stood quietly at the other end of the corridor.

Ruby glanced back at him with a cold look in her eyes.

Their interactions during this time had been very limited. Ruby frequently stayed at the hospital ever since Ella got admitted.

But except for the times when Ruby asked Ronan about Ella’s and Adrian’s health, they never talked.

"Did you do that on purpose?" Ruby walked towards Ronan.

Ruby had briefly seen how Ella got along with Adrian’s grandparents. And while they seemed to like her, a major part of it was because of Adrian.

And Ruby did not have to be an expert to understand that a family like the Kings wouldn’t just still be without having marriage prospects for Adrian in their mind.

"Are you making it difficult for her because you don’t like her?" Ruby narrowed her eyes at Ronan.

Ronan’s lips curled down mockingly, "Do you think so low of me?"

"There is no other explanation to what you did there... You could’ve..."

"Softened the words and made it sound better?" Ronan’s jaw ticked, "Ace almost died. Not only is he my best friend, he is my patient too and it is only right for me to give his family the truth that I’ve been holding back all this while. Ella is an unhealthy obsession for Adrian."

Ruby shook her head, "Is that how you justify being a jerk? Ella did not ask to be saved and Adrian hasn’t blamed her yet. Anybody would want to save their loved ones but it’s probably difficult for you to understand because you don’t really care for anyone. You are selfish, arrogant and flippant with your words and actions—"

Ruby’s words were yet to finish when slender fingers curled around her neck and pinned her back onto the wall and warm lips smashed against her.

The kiss was almost punishing for both of them.

Ruby’s heart raced and her eyes fluttered close gently, her fingers curling.

Right at this moment, Ronan pulled back from her.

Her eyes snapped open.

There was a cold smile on his face, "You curse me and then close your eyes to kiss me. Who is flippant, Miss Ambrose?"

Ruby’s heart was still racing, a faint flush covered her cheeks but her eyes stared at the man coldly.

Yet, without sparing her another word, the man turned around and left.

"I almost lost you again, didn’t I?" Ella’s fingers trembled as she reached out to hold the man’s hand.

Adrian’s eyes were half-open, weariness visible in them. He moved his lips as if he was trying to say something but no words came out of his mouth.

"Don’t say anything today... If you can, just listen to me. If it gets exhausting, you can close your eyes too..." Ella whispered.

When the man remained still, she smiled, "If you want me to speak, you can blink once."

There was silence in the room. It almost felt like she was talking to herself.

But after two seconds, there was a response from the man in front of her.

Adrian blinked once. It was so subtle that one could easily miss it but Ella had been paying close attention to his every movement to not notice it.

"This is my second time living life..." Ella softly mumbled, "For a while, I convinced myself that the experience of my previous life was just a dream. I even told you that but it was not. I’m certain of it."

"The reason I’m so sure of it is because everything I remember about my previous life came true in this one. Esther did betray me. Ruby did care for me. The secrets of the Mo Family. Every information that I remembered was correct. But this time, I changed the events by changing my decisions."

"I knew how to deal with everything and everyone, Adrian. Except one person," Ella paused, "That’s you."

"At first, I just wanted to find a way to tackle you. When I did, I didn’t care about it. I started caring about you more. I couldn’t understand why I was so helpless when it came to you..."

"Until now. Now I know."
