Chapter 664: Winter Death Spear
Third Person’s POV
Misril’s expression became increasingly gloomy as he watched Ethan’s distant figure.
He knew that he could normally keep pace with someone of Ethan’s speed.
As a mage specialized in the wind element, he possessed an inherent advantage when it came to movement and speed, much like lightning element mages.
Yet there was one major problem.
He had to protect Prince Erius.
He couldn’t simply abandon the prince and go all out like Ethan was doing.
That realization made the frustration within him grow, especially when he considered the fact that Ethan was supposed to do the same.
Misril clenched his teeth as he continued following the others, his opinion of Ethan falling even further.
In his eyes, Ethan was completely ignoring the responsibility he had accepted by joining Prince Erius’s group.
He had no idea that Ethan’s current urgency had nothing to do with the expedition or the prince.
There was only one thought occupying Ethan’s mind now, and it was to reach them before it was too late.
Soon, Ethan could see the faint outline of a ruined city appearing on the distant horizon.
His crimson eyes narrowed.
The moment he realized he was finally approaching the place where his mother and Aurelia were located, he accelerated even further.
He forced his body beyond its already strained limits, pushing every muscle in his legs to produce another burst of explosive speed, causing small tears to appear throughout his muscles from the tremendous pressure.
The strain continued to build.
Soon, several of the veins in his legs ruptured under the excessive force, but Ethan’s expression remained completely unchanged.
The pain didn’t even register properly within his consciousness.
His mind had already narrowed down to a single objective.
Reach them.
The icy mana flowing through his body seemed to move according to its own instinct, immediately freezing the torn muscles and ruptured veins before the damage could spread any further.
Ethan didn’t slow down.
He followed the faint disturbances detected by his powerful soul sense, rapidly approaching the location where the battle was taking place.
The closer he came, the more chaotic the surrounding elemental energy became.
The natural flow of ice and other elemental mana had been violently disturbed, creating obvious traces of an intense battle that even ordinary mages could probably sense from a distance.
Then Ethan finally saw it.
A huge sheep-headed demon stood within the ruined city.
Its enormous body was surrounded by a frightening aura, while its malicious red eyes stared toward the two women at the edge of the city.
Even from nearly two hundred metres away, Ethan could clearly feel the malice and bloodthirst radiating from the creature.
And then he saw them.
His mother and Aurelia.
Both women were still impaled by the grayish-blue bone spikes.
Their bodies were covered in injuries, their clothes stained with blood, and their expressions were filled with exhaustion and despair.
The moment Ethan saw them in such a state, something inside his mind finally snapped.
The final thread of restraint holding back his worry and anxiety snapped and transformed into immense fury.
But he didn’t roar.
He didn’t release an uncontrolled burst of killing intent that might alert the demon before he could attack.
Instead, Ethan silently roused the entirety of the ice mana available to him.
His crimson eyes became frighteningly cold.
A small but thick ice spear suddenly materialized within his hand.
After nearly nine years of constantly studying and manipulating magic, controlling elemental mana had become almost as natural to Ethan as breathing.
This was especially true for someone like him who possessed such monstrous affinity toward both darkness and ice elements.
Unlike ordinary mages, Ethan didn’t need to rely excessively on complicated spell formulas or establish an elaborate synchronization between his soul energy and mana whenever he wanted to perform a relatively simple spell.
His control over the elements had reached an extremely refined level.
Of course, truly powerful and elaborate spells were different.
For those, spell formulas and precise soul-mana synchronization remained essential.
But this wasn’t one of those spells.
Ethan didn’t throw the spear immediately after forming it.
Instead, he continued refining it.
The shaft gradually became denser and denser under his manipulation.
The originally ordinary looking ice slowly transformed until the spear no longer resembled something made purely from ice.
It looked more like a weapon forged from extremely cold metal.
Ethan understood that the shaft needed enough density and structural stability to withstand the tremendous force behind his throw.
Otherwise, the spear itself would crumble the moment it encountered slight resistance.
But the shaft wasn’t the true killing point.
His attention was focused entirely upon the tip, as he gathered a chaotic mass of condensed ice mana there.
Rather than forming a simple sharp point, Ethan compressed countless tiny ice needles together inside the tip, forcing them into an unstable and extremely destructive configuration.
The chaotic energy continued moving within the spearhead.
If it successfully pierced its target, the compressed ice mana would violently erupt from within in a lethal explosion, tearing through the target’s body from the inside and destroying its internal structure.
Ethan’s eyes became increasingly cold.
In his run, he suddenly shot quite high into the air.
He didn’t merely throw the spear using the strength of his arm.
He used the momentum he had accumulated throughout his entire sprint.
Every ounce of explosive power generated by his monstrous physique was transferred into that single movement.
His arm snapped forward.
BOOM!
The short ice spear shot through the air like a supersonic projectile, leaving behind a delayed sound of terrifying whistling that sounded like a banshee screaming at the top of her lungs.
A faint blue streak remained in its wake as it tore through the cold atmosphere, its speed so great that the surrounding snow was violently pushed aside.
The sheep demon had barely turned its head when the projectile reached it.
PSSH!
The spear slammed directly into its outstretched arm.
The tremendous force behind the projectile instantly tore through a large portion of its shoulder, sending bits of flesh and fragments of frozen black blood scattering through the air.
