Of course, even if they had been tampered with, how could he have noticed while unconscious?
His mother wouldn’t be foolish enough to let him wake up before covering her tracks.

This left Roland feeling utterly frustrated at himself for first time. His mother insisted on creating the impression that he had been manipulated, yet she gave him no opportunity to detect any anomalies, forcing him to speculate about the worst possible scenarios all the time.
