Chapter 77: Water Treatment
"Fine, that works then, I’ll be teaching you, Elisa," Aric said.
"Since we are talking about teaching, Aric and I have decided that everyone at this table will undergo some basic education," Ariel said.
"Why only us? There are tons of goblins that would want this opportunity," Ron said.
"That’s true, but we can’t do that now. Access to education is not something anyone can get, even in the human and elf settlements.
It’s not a free commodity; it’s quite expensive, and many families opt out of it. If we made education free here, it would lose its importance too early.
The goblins have to see it as a reward, something they can only get if they work hard to help us build.
It is like the true name; Aric could easily give them all a true name, but if he did, what else would they have to work towards?
Goals and rewards are what drive workers. Now that their number is higher, it would be hard to manage them the same way Aric did for you and the other goblins, so a good way to keep them in check is rewards," Ariel said. Her words made sense to all of them.
"So what are we going to be learning, and how is it going to be?" Unara asked.
"Elisa and I will teach you on certain days of the week, basic math and reading. All of you here are going to be the face of Aric in the future, and so we have to make sure that you have basic knowledge at least.
