Madeline lifted her head, staring at the road. "Maybe this is his punishment and redemption. He ruined my life by draining my savings for my mom and brother. He also borrowed so much money from our relatives that none of them want to have any contact with us anymore."
"To have him dead in a ditch is pitiful but not surprising," Madeline said. "But I’m glad that he has a use for others in his head. He’s being used for young doctors to study, right?"
"Right," Lance nodded. "Are you sure you don’t want to bury him?"
"No, let him be useful," Madeline smiled. "Oh, and can I ask you one more thing?"
"Sure, baby. I’m always here for you," Lance assured.
"Can you hide this from my mother? She’s been through a lot, and she already treated my father as a dead person anyway," Madeline commented. "I don’t want her to start feeling nostalgic about him. Just let her forget about her husband and carry on with life."
Lance nodded, though he didn’t understand.
Lance grew up in a tightly-knit family. They shared their problems and helped each other when needed; it was just part of his life.
So, it felt tragic to see his beloved’s family in shambles and an unrecoverable state.
"So, what’s the good news?" Madeline asked as she shifted the topic.
Lance finally smiled as he replied, "You will see in our home. I’ve prepared a huge surprise for you."
