Chapter 184
"Please don’t hurt her again, Mr. Grant. Madeline is frail and naive," Diana said while staring at them. "She’s a very loyal woman who would do anything for her man. I know this because she’s my daughter."
Lance could truly feel Diana’s sincerity and seriousness.
"I assure you, Mrs. Rose, I will cherish her. You don’t need to worry," Lance said. "And I’ve pulled a few strings to move you to a better hospital, also with all the best doctors to treat your cancer."
Diana chuckled softly. "Thank you for your offer, but the doctor said that I’m going to recover soon, and then I can finally go to work once I’m discharged."
"Mom, it’s safer for you to recuperate in a better place and with better surveillance, so nobody would harm you while I wasn’t around, like that man..." Madeline said, indirectly mentioning Zane. "It’s also me who asked Lance to do this. So don’t think of it as him trying to appease you. He did it because I requested it."
In reality, Madeline was fabricating the truth.
Lance insisted that Diana be moved to a better hospital with even better security measures while recovering.
But if she said it was Lance’s initiative, her mother would never accept it.
Diana sighed. "I never understood how you could do so much for me, Maddy. After all, my husband was the one who drained your savings through gambling."
Madeline’s throat tightened as she swallowed her saliva. She hadn’t told Lance about her father and never had a plan to because she thought that bastard was as good as dead, probably already dead somewhere after getting chased by debt collectors and the casino mafia.
Lance glanced at Madeline, and his heart turned cold as he realized that Madeline hadn’t told him about her father.
When he first investigated Madeline’s family, he only discovered that she lived alone with her brother. Her parents were nowhere to be seen by the neighbors for years.
