Chapter 126: The Ring
Leander’s big hand pressed against her lower back, pulling her closer to him.
She’s saying that she can never be happy because of her evilness. If she can’t be happy because she is evil, why is he happy even when he is the devil incarnate?
Or maybe he is not happy? What is happiness?
Leander, for the first time in his life, pondered about something deep in his heart that he never ventured. He had lived a very shallow life. And maybe he never was happy. He never was content. He was looking for something.
Maybe she is the answer. That’s why he couldn’t kill her and is besotted with her. It’s not her appearance, but something that she holds within.
Ever since he met her he’s learned that his foot is not on solid ground but he was standing in shallow, murky water. He couldn’t see his reflection. Only when the water beneath his feet clears, will he see his true self, he thought.
He shook his head. As he knew, this woman is dangerous. She makes his foundation tremble. He need not reexamine his life at his age.
She, and Lionel too.
Lionel was wrong. He should have been allowed to be ignorantly blissful.
He sighed.
All he wanted was to see her jump for joy at the ring he bought for her after looking everywhere! But why are they here?
He looked at her, leaning on his chest with her hands clasped together against his chest. Wet blanket! But whenever she is leaning on him, he ceases to exist. His desire to protect her will be the one thing that rules every fiber of his being.
