Chapter 148: Can’t Find Them, Can’t Cause Trouble
Granny Lu hurriedly sent Qin Xiangyang to fetch wooden stools and tables as soon as she heard this. Previously, she had worried that her grandsons would neglect their studies, but now she thought differently. If the students buying the food weren’t worried about being late, why should her grandson be?
The next day, Granny Lu got up early and steamed several large baskets full of lotus leaf pancakes, in pots and in steamers, all kept warm.
Soon after, customers began to show up.
Thanks to the business from the previous day and word of mouth among the students, everyone knew there was food for sale here and that it tasted good. So, many students who hadn’t eaten breakfast came over to grab a lotus leaf pancake, some even bought two. Of course, they were from slightly better-off homes. Even those who weren’t well-off wouldn’t skimp; they certainly wouldn’t let the students go hungry.
After a few days, the stools and tables that Qin Xiangyang had ordered arrived. They were the long bench type, newly painted and smelled quite strong, but after airing out for a while, they would be ready for use in a few days.
"Is there porridge today?" One student’s nose was particularly sharp, catching the scent that indicated porridge might be available.
"Yes, today we’ve made preserved egg and lean pork congee, as well as pumpkin porridge. Both are only ten cents a bowl. Do you want some?"
"Yes, yes," replied several students eagerly, securing their seats while waiting for the porridge.
