Chapter 893: It’s not pity
Fig didn’t idle around in the line and ended the call minutes later. Heaven, on the other hand, stayed in the room for a while, with her mind drifting elsewhere. When she came back to her senses, she pushed herself away from the couch and went out. Heaven first went to the backyard. This place was surrounded by acres of land, so even though rounds of bullets were fired, no one would come to check what was going on. Standing by the window where she could see the backyard, Heaven leaned her side against the jamb. She crossed her arms, eyes on her husband and Bear, who were practicing their marksmanship in preparation for their plans.
"He said he had been sparring with Bear in his free time, but it seems he was being humble," she murmured, observing Dominic’s stance and form while holding that type of weapon.
A subtle smile appeared on her face, which disappeared almost immediately.
"You really are shameless, Hera," she whispered to herself. "For being okay with this, but I guess there are some old habits I have to retain. After all, if I don’t let him spread his wings, people will just continue to deceive him and target him for no damn reason."
A faint look of sorrow and pity unraveled in her eyes while staring at her husband. Dominic acted as if it barely bothered him, but she knew him from inside and out. Dominic had been betrayed, lied to, and used by other people just because of who he was. And those people were also the same people he held close to his heart.
It started with Leon Zhu when Dominic was young and now in the present, Dane Zhang.
No one seemed to have noticed or had taken time to notice what her husband truly felt. Heaven was probably one of those, using this situation as an excuse to not fully delve into her husband’s feelings. An old habit of negligence, thinking it was not worth the trouble to dwell on something that had already happened if they could simply resolve it by preventing similar problems from arising in the future.
"This is no time for this," she whispered. "Once this is over, we can focus on our hearts."
