Chapter 665: Second phase
The news that was as big as what happened the night of the Lyon Group Anniversary went on for a long time. When the news of Dominic regaining consciousness went out to the public, surprisingly, many people rejoiced. Most of them were those who sympathized with him and then with every employee of the Lyon Group. Many of the employees’ reasons were because of their fear of losing their jobs, while some believed they owed their lives to him.
Things quieted down nevertheless. The Lyon Group recovered a month after Dominic’s recovery and since then, it continued to soar. Because of what happened, many people wanted to support the Zhu family out of the goodness of their hearts, while some took this as an opportunity to appear as ’heroes.’ However, unlike what everyone expected, Dominic made a huge decision when the company stabilized.
He stepped down from his position. He abdicated his position as the CEO of the Lyon Group, one of the biggest business empires in the country, to pursue something else.
"I would like to thank everyone who came to support me today." Dominic lowered his head as he spoke through the mic, hands on the lectern.
Before him were countless people who came to support him in his public speech.
"The past months had been a shock to all of us and I never talked about it. It pains me that such a thing happened under my watch, and I’ve never felt so powerless and helpless." He drew a deep breath as he sighed, sporting a subtle smile that was enough to capture any lady’s heart. "All I had in my mind back then was, if I had more power, would I be able to protect more people? Even when I woke up from a long slumber, it didn’t leave my mind. My guilt for everyone who was hurt that night is what pushes me to this point."
"I declare my candidacy..." Dominic announced his official candidacy, followed by a strong speech about his platform, his mission, and all the flowery words any politician would spew to get the people’s hearts. "... I assure everyone that I’d do my best to contribute to this country’s growing economy."
A loud round of applause and cheers erupted in the square where he chose to make his public speech. Some were screaming his name, cheering for him, celebrating this declaration with a joyful heart. Dominic had proved himself as the CEO of the Lyon Group. The Lyon Group was already on the brink of bankruptcy before Dominic woke up. But when the man regained consciousness, he didn’t even fully recover as he salvaged the company.
On top of that, the people had never forgotten his act of heroism on the night of the Lyon Group anniversary. A man like him was what this country needed. Therefore, even before Dominic could make his candidacy official, the rumors about him being a great leader of the country started going around until the idea was instilled in people.
"Dominic! Dominic!"
Dominic smiled as the crowd chanted his name as if he was performing a concert. He smiled warmly and at the same time, the huge screen on the side closed up, his face warranting another roar of cheers.
