Heaven was devastated that Paula, the person her father loved most, would hurt him. Her father had always made sure to give Paula extra attention so she wouldn’t feel left out. Heaven knew her father wasn’t perfect, but he had always done his best to raise her and Paula. He had worked hard to provide for them, and he had always been there for them when they needed him. Heaven was heartbroken that her father was sick, and she was angry that Paula had hurt him.
Heaven looked down at the floor, trying to hide her sadness. She knew her father would want her to forgive, but that would be difficult.
"I know Paula is sorry for what she did," Heaven said. "And I know she didn’t mean to hurt my dad. But it doesn’t change the fact that she did hurt him, resulting in his death. And I’m not sure if I can ever forgive her for that."
Heaven paused for a moment, trying to find the right words.
"I just want my dad to be okay," she said finally. "I want him to get better. And I want him to know that I love him, but she took that away from me."
Heaven forced a bitter smile, hoping her father could hear her.
"I love my dad," she whispered. "And there’s never a day that I didn’t miss him."
She paused for a moment, lifting her eyes to Hera. "I can take it if she just didn’t want nothing to do with him or with me. But she killed him, and even after that, it was not enough to stop her or try to make up for her crime. Instead, she made me believe I deserve to be miserable — that Basti doesn’t deserve me as his mom. No amount of apologies can make me forgive her. She’s five years late."
"That makes me angry, enough to make me want to go back into that body to set her straight." Heaven bit her quivering lip. "I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to put you in danger, but I know that’s not enough excuse."
Hera remained silent as she assessed the original Heaven before her.
"Damn it," she hissed, scratching her temple in irritation. "Don’t make it sound like I’m the bad person here."
