Chapter 48: She Lied
Xu Xiang nodded to Fan Guohai, then walked back to her mule cart. When she lifted the cover of the mule cart, she saw Xiao Shao come.
"Miss Xu, can you tell me what happened in detail?" He asked before Xu Xiang could speak.
Xu Xiang put down the covers of the cart, looked at Xiao Shao and said, "I saw Miss Xiao leave the cave alone, so I followed since it’s dangerous for a woman to go out alone late at night. When I was looking for her, I found that beside the footprints of Miss Xiao and Miss Fan, there were a bunch of footprints of men on the ground not far from the cave. Following the footprints, I found that Miss Xiao was unconscious, and Miss Fan was surrounded by those people."
Xiao Shao stared at her, waiting for her to continue, but Xu Xiang didn’t say anything afterwards. After a moment of silence, he asked, "How did you rescue them from those people?"
Xu Xiang lowered her eyes to avoid Xiao Shao’s sharp gaze, and said, "I hit them on the head with a stick I picked up on the road."
Seeing her expressionless face, Xiao Shao frowned. He thought for a while and asked, "How did you hit them before they found you?"
With her eyes lowered, she said calmly, "I tried to keep my steps as quiet as possible, and then hit them on the head before they could react."
Listening to what she said just now, Xiao Shao didn’t show any reaction. His gaze was still on her, observing her carefully, trying to find clues. It’s a pity that although Xu Xiang is a bad liar, she is an expert when it comes to keeping a poker face.
