Chapter 421: Under Attack!
"Grindelwald doesn't suspect you, does he? Be careful... Hm? Why is your face so red?" Wade asked curiously, looking at the slightly flustered Anne.
"Huh? It's... it's nothing..." Anne lowered her head.
"You..." Wade had only just begun speaking when the train suddenly jolted violently beneath him.
Boom! Screech!
A deafening crash came from the front. Immediately afterward, Wade felt his body become weightless, and everything around him, including his own body, was thrown uncontrollably towards the front of the train.
Screams and cries of pain erupted throughout the carriages.
Hagrid was the first to be flung against the wall, but even then, he desperately spread his arms, trying to use his own body as a cushion for the students hurtling towards him.
With Wade's cat-like reflexes, he understood what had happened almost instantly.
The train had been forced into an emergency stop.
Inertia was throwing everyone and everything forwards.
Wade's figure suddenly vanished. When he reappeared, he was already suspended in mid-air.
He raised one hand sharply.
Everyone who had been thrown through the compartment suddenly stopped as though they had struck invisible cushions, then hovered safely in the air.
Bang!
The train finally came to a complete stop.
At the same time, screams and cries of pain echoed throughout the Hogwarts Express.
Wade waved his hand, gently lowering everyone in the compartment back to the floor.
Thanks to him, no one in their compartment had been injured.
The students in the other carriages were not so fortunate.
Tom drew his wand and quickly opened the compartment door to look outside.
Many students lay unconscious in the corridor, while even more sat on the floor groaning in pain.
In the distance, Andre's hoarse voice could faintly be heard issuing instructions.
Everyone had been stunned by the sudden disaster.
The Hogwarts Express would never stop so violently without reason.
There was only one possibility.
They were under attack.
"Tom! Stay here and watch everyone. I'll go see what's happening."
As Wade spoke, his figure vanished from the compartment.
Holding the Elder Wand, Wade appeared directly on the roof of the train.
Outside, everything was shrouded in dense white fog. Visibility was extremely poor, and it was impossible to see what had happened at the front of the train. The mist clung to everything, cold and heavy, muffling sounds and making the air feel thick in his lungs.
Wade spotted Andre standing by one of the carriage doors, clutching his injured head as he directed others to carry out the wounded and unconscious students.
Andre looked up and happened to see Wade standing on the roof.
Wade gave him a slight nod before shooting into the air and flying rapidly towards the front of the train.
His improved flying spell stirred the white mist around him, wrapping his body in fog and blending him into the surrounding whiteness.
He soon reached the front.
Wade's pupils contracted slightly at the sight before him.
The front of the train had been completely severed.
Dozens of metres away, a huge giant was swinging an enormous wooden club, repeatedly smashing it into a twisted mass of metal.
Wade looked more closely and realised that the mangled lump of metal was actually the locomotive of the Hogwarts Express.
Landing on the roof, Wade faintly made out several human silhouettes in the white fog behind the giant.
It seemed that a group of wizards were standing there, silently watching from a distance.
Clearly, even they appeared wary of the rampaging giant.
Wade Apparated from the roof to the ground and observed the giant from afar.
Turning his head, he saw that although the first carriage had been somewhat deformed, it was still intact.
Several injured students were peering fearfully through the windows at the distant giant.
"Stop standing there! Take the injured and get out of here immediately!" Wade shouted sharply.
As the leader of the Mutual Aid Society, Wade had considerable prestige among the students, and many of them knew him.
Hearing his command, the panicked students finally found someone to follow and quickly began moving as instructed.
It was understandable.
Since the Hogwarts Express had officially entered service, it had never once been attacked.
The sudden assault had left many students too stunned to react.
"Argh!"
The giant continued hammering the locomotive as though venting its rage, each blow making the ground tremble. Dust and shards of metal flew with every impact, filling the air with the sharp scent of torn steel and earth.
Wade watched it cautiously.
Only then did he notice several Aurors lying on the ground not far from the giant, their condition unknown.
On the first and last days of term, several Aurors usually accompanied the Hogwarts Express for protection.
Because the train had never experienced any trouble, they generally rested in a compartment prepared for them near the locomotive.
Since the assignment was considered safe, the Aurors assigned to it were rarely among the strongest.
Clearly, the sudden attack had caught them completely off guard.
Before they could accomplish much, they had already been taken down.
Wade had no time to determine whether they were alive or dead.
The giant had apparently noticed the young witches and wizards fleeing nearby.
"Argh!"
Brandishing its enormous club, the giant charged towards them in huge strides.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
Its footsteps thundered across the ground.
The sight of such an enormous creature charging straight at them froze many of the students in terror.
Most of them had never faced anything remotely like this before. The overwhelming pressure of the giant's full-speed charge left them paralysed with fear. Their faces went pale, breaths coming in short gasps as the ground shook under them.
Wade calmly watched the giant rushing towards them.
He raised the Elder Wand and swept it through the air in a graceful arc.
Whoosh!
The enormous club in the giant's hands suddenly began to tremble violently.
The next instant, it twisted and transformed.
Under the giant's bewildered gaze, the club became a gigantic python as thick as a barrel.
The python opened its enormous jaws and lunged straight for the giant's throat!
