Chapter 47: In three days.
June 23 2026, 1:04pm.
Tears spilled out of Nyx’ara’s eyes and splashed onto the white paper as her hands danced across the page, scribbling down her signature.
Her heart was as heavy as lead. Her breath came in short harsh pants and her eyes... goddess, her eyes were bloodshot and puffy.
She signed quickly, feeling like she had just signed off her entire life to these men, and by the time she was done, she dropped the pen on the table, took a step back, and sighed.
"C-can I g-go now?"
"You no longer want to make any requests?" Draven asked her, stunned. His eyebrows shot into his hairline as he stared pointedly at her pale, frightened face.
He also couldn’t help but notice how her hands trembled violently even after being folded behind her back... and the way she could, for some reason, no longer meet their eyes.
Whatever bridges between them that they must’ve crossed in the past few days... It was burned down now. She was back to being afraid of them.
"You don’t want anything anymore?"
For a moment, Nyx’ara contemplated saying no to him. She contemplated walking out then and leaving them alone. But after remembering what they had put her through... and the outrageous agreement they had just made her sign, she decided then and there that they wouldn’t get all of that for free. She would ask for something in return and she would get it.
She shrugged; "I-I still want so-something."
Her brazenness made the corners of Draven’s lips twitch until they curled into a smile. Deep down, he always knew that there was no way she wouldn’t ask for something.
Hell, he was already bracing for the outrageous amount of money she would ask for... or the wishes, the jewellery... the fame—
"I-I want to-to return to school."
As soon as she made that statement, he blinked. His eyes shot up to meet hers and when he saw the determination blazing in those fiery blue eyes, he frowned.
"School? Just school?"
"I-I never g-got to-to finish high sch-school." She explained. "I-I only ma-made it to-to prom. However, I-I always wanted to-to attend Stanford until the... until the—" She couldn’t bring herself to talk about the accident.
She couldn’t talk about Elara without feeling a surge of rage bubble up at the base of her throat.
She had never thought about it for the past three years. Hell, she had only ever known survival and never really thought about Elara until now. And now that she had... she had concluded that she would get her revenge. One way or the other, she would make the truth surface.
"What revenge scheme are you plotting?" Kieran suddenly asked, pulling her out of her thoughts. "I can feel it through the bond but I cannot hear your thoughts because you do not have a wolf."
She shook her head quickly, unwilling to talk to anyone about it and so she settled for continuing with her request instead. "I-I want to-to be allowed t-to return to sch-school and I-I want t-to be provided a... a phone."
As soon as she finished making her request, the room was plunged into a deafening silence. The quads all turned to look at her in stunned silence because truthfully, none of them had expected that she would make such mundane requests. None of them had expected that she would ask for something as small as a phone rather than mentioning tens and thousands of dollars.
Or even jewellery... or a car.
Kieran, who had been glaring at her the entire time, finally snapped out of it and pushed himself off the wall. He crossed the room with two quick strides, leaned forward towards her... and just when they were on the same eye level and almost sharing the same breath, he drawled;
"Do you mean that?"
His warm breath fanned her face. It smelled of cigarettes and a hint of champagne. She frowned when it tickled her nose, gulped, and blinked up at him. "Y-yes?"
"Consider it done then."
Because she hadn’t expected him to respond so quickly, she was stunned. Her heart skipped a beat when he clamped one heavy hand on her shoulder, and after staring deep into her eyes for a couple of seconds without seeing whatever it was that he was searching for, he then pulled back.
"We would demand a regular thorough check through your phone and all your devices though. Do you agree with that?"
She didn’t expect any different.
She nodded. "Y-yes."
"Good. Now, you can leave."
For a moment, she was so stunned, she could barely move. Her eyes glistened with tears as she trudged towards the door, unable to ignore the way their eyes bore literal holes into her back.
She walked slowly but surely, crossing the room, and by the time she arrived at the door, all the brothers had turned away from her and were now discussing something concerning their company’s finances.
She pulled the door open with her heart still racing in her chest, as if half expecting them to call her back and take back everything they’d said so far.
But they did not.
Quickly, she walked out, clicked the door shut behind herself, and sighed as she leaned against it.
’Thank God!’
It took her about thirty minutes to get her heartbeat to return to normal and it wasn’t until this time that she noticed the ball of white fur curled at her feet.
A slow smile made its way to her face when a familiar blue pair of eyes met hers. She squealed as she crouched instantly.
"Coco!"
The cat, upon hearing its name, wagged its furry tail slowly. She pressed her weight into Nyx’ara’s arm as soon as she stretched out her hands and rested her big furry head on her chest when she pulled her into her arms.
Nyx’ara picked up the feline, feeling her mood lift. And as she walked away, she seemed to forget about everything that had happened in the room.
She even forgot that the next Friday was in three days.

Meanwhile...
"Why does she always get everything?!" Elara cried at Flynn who for some reason, was at the point where he was tired of hearing her constant whining.
He couldn’t understand how he had fallen in love with this whiny pompous obnoxious girl in the past.
He couldn’t understand how she had been able to fool him into thinking that she was a good person... and truth be told, anyone who had seen her acting about three hours ago in the Sovereign Alphas’ office would’ve also thought the same if they didn’t know her well enough.
But he did.
And he knew that she was nothing but a scam.
"She is living like a royal even after murdering a person!" She screamed again, and this time, Flynn was fed up.
He turned to her and with a voice so cold, it sent chills down her spine, he said; "Why did you do that, earlier?"
Elara froze. "Do what?"
"Why were you so desperate to take Nyx’ara’s place back there?"
Now, Elara could not help the dread that rushed through her body. She turned away, not saying anything.
A beat of silence passed through them before Flynn spoke up again, and this time, when he did, there wasn’t a trace of love left in him. No care. No empathy.
He drawled; "Maybe I should tell them you’re the real murderer. Since you want to take Nyx’ara’s place so badly, then maybe I should help you."
