Naruto: The Shameless Uchiha Tycoon

Chapter 110: Back to Konoha

Ren signed the paper and slid the pen aside.

The estate manager waited near the doorway while servants carried the last travel trunks to the carriage.

"Lord Ren, should future custom-order correspondence be forwarded directly to Konoha?"

"No. Ordinary requests go through the workshop and Kakuzu. Send me anything the factory can’t already make."

Outside, Kakuzu was checking the carriage load against his ledger. Most of the demonstration cases had stayed with the capital workshop.

"Demand is already larger than the custom workshop can handle," Kakuzu said.

Ren expected a complaint.

Kakuzu looked pleased.

"Waiting lists allow me to increase the premium," the treasurer added smoothly. "If they have to wait, they should pay more for the privilege."

Ren looked at him for a long moment. Kakuzu saw absolutely nothing wrong with that logic.

"Get in the carriage," Ren said.

Ren leaned back as the capital walls disappeared behind them. He had gone there wondering whether the new business had a market.

Apparently, the real problem was keeping up with it.

Kakuzu spent the first hour of the ride reading production figures aloud from his open ledger.

"Stop reading those numbers," Ren eventually told him.

Kakuzu didn’t look up from the page. "You are the one who created the company."

"Creating the company does not mean I want to hear about harness profit margins for the entire ride home," Ren replied.

Kakuzu finally closed the book, though he looked deeply offended by the lack of financial appreciation.

The journey back was uneventful. Roads that had been clogged with relief wagons after the Nine-Tails attack were carrying ordinary merchant traffic again, and most of the temporary repair camps had disappeared.

By late afternoon, the massive wooden gates of Konoha appeared on the horizon.

The carriage slowed as they approached the entrance. The gate guards recognized Ren and Kakuzu immediately, waving them through without requiring a tedious inspection.

"You’ve been away long enough, Lord Ren," one of the older guards called out casually as the carriage rolled past. "Half the village has started sending paperwork directly to your house again."

Ren closed his eyes, instantly regretting his return.

"Paperwork is preferable to unpaid invoices," Kakuzu muttered from the opposite seat.

Ren entered the Uchiha compound expecting the quiet familiarity of home.

Instead, he walked into the main courtyard and found absolute chaos.

Naruto stood on a low stone bench, balancing on one foot while throwing pebbles at a target scratched onto the fence. Sasuke was trying to copy him and repeatedly falling backward onto the grass.

Kushina was failing to stop either of them. Mikoto had apparently given up.

Naruto saw Ren first.

Naruto abandoned the bench and slammed into Ren’s legs.

Ren caught him, and Naruto immediately launched into a breathless story involving a stray cat and what he insisted was a new ninja technique.

Kushina walked over, wrapped her arms around Ren’s neck, and kissed him in the middle of the courtyard.

Mikoto watched the kiss from the veranda and crossed her arms.

"Not on the neck," Mikoto called out mildly.

Kushina broke the kiss and immediately looked offended.

Ren laughed.

Before Kushina could argue, Kakuzu walked past them carrying his heavy ledger toward the administrative wing, muttering loudly about the sheer volume of capital orders requiring immediate filing.

Kushina shot Mikoto a very specific look the moment the capital orders were mentioned.

Ren narrowed his eyes. "What was that?"

"Nothing important," both women said together.

Ren narrowed his eyes.

Kushina looked amused. Mikoto suddenly found Sasuke’s shirt very interesting.

Ren let it go.

Once Naruto eventually dragged Kushina toward their house across the courtyard and Sasuke became entirely occupied with a wooden toy, Mikoto got a quieter moment with Ren.

She stepped off the veranda and walked over to him.

"Did the capital trip go well?" Mikoto asked quietly.

"Far too well," Ren admitted.

Mikoto glanced toward the administrative wing where Kakuzu had disappeared with his ledger.

"That well?"

"That well," Ren confirmed.

Then her expression softened, dropping the casual banter entirely. "How are your eyes?"

Ren stopped.

"They’re fine," Ren said.

Mikoto studied his face for several seconds.

Ren let her.

Finally, she nodded.

A moment later, Fugaku stepped into the courtyard through the main gate, having just returned from the precinct.

Fugaku stopped, looked at Ren, and then looked at Kakuzu’s retreating back near the offices.

"Did you return with more money than you left with?" Fugaku asked flatly.

"Yes," Kakuzu answered loudly from the administrative doorway before Ren could even open his mouth.

Fugaku gave Ren a long look.

"Where is Itachi?" Ren asked, smoothly changing the subject.

"Working," Fugaku answered. "He is currently out on assignment."

Ren nodded.

"Is Shisui with him?" Ren asked.

"I have no idea," Fugaku said. "Every time I ask that boy anything about his schedule, he tells me it’s classified."

Ren smiled.

Later that evening, when Ren and Kushina finally found a brief moment alone in his study without Naruto trying to throw things at them, Kushina sat on the edge of his desk.

"Why did you come back earlier than expected?" she asked, tracing a finger over a stack of blank paper. "Kakuzu usually forces you to stay until every contract is finalized."

Ren reached into his pocket and pulled out the small, sealed message tube he had received in the capital. He handed it to her.

Kushina read the note twice.

"You’re really going to do something about his eye?"

"If Tsunade thinks it’s safe."

Her fingers stayed on the edge of the paper for a moment longer before she handed it back.

Ren didn’t push. Naruto’s loud laughter carried in from the hallway a moment later, and neither of them returned to the subject.

But before they separated for the evening, Kushina took a slow breath.

"When are you seeing her?" Kushina asked.

"Tomorrow," Ren answered.

Kushina nodded.

By late evening, Ren was finally alone.

Ren sat on the edge of his bed and opened the Black Vault, dropping the few remaining capital ledgers into storage before closing it again.

Then he called up the System.

The Foreign Chakra Compatibility Seal was still waiting exactly where he had left it.

Cost: 80,000 BC.

His balance still sat at five million BC. Eighty thousand was nothing.

Ren still didn’t buy it.

Tsunade had conditions.

Before Ren could close the interface and settle in for the night, a sharp knock echoed against the front door of the main house.

Ren walked down the quiet hallway and opened the door. A medical shinobi wearing the standard hospital uniform stood on the porch, holding a small clipboard.

"Lord Ren," the messenger said. "Lady Tsunade knows you returned this evening. She requested your presence at the clinic."

"Tomorrow?" Ren guessed.

"First thing tomorrow morning," the messenger confirmed.

Apparently, when you return meant immediately.

"Tell her I’ll be there."

Ren closed the door.

The seal could wait one more night.

Tomorrow, Tsunade could explain her conditions.
