Chapter 184: Nascent Aeon
Give me your stones, please! 🥹
---
I started checking the shop's catalog; there are a lot of things that could make me powerful. Honestly, I already know what to buy.
Herta gave me an idea of what to look for; it was to become an Aeon.
Buying an aeon core could directly make me a universal-level threat, at least those top-tier ones.
Because there's no way I'd buy a weak aeon core; that's just asking to get swallowed by other paths.
From what I researched, if I took a single step in Herta's world, there's a high possibility that I would directly get eaten by other superior paths that conflict with this specific concept.
That's why I need a top-tier aeon core that could at least fight back; however…
They're ridiculously expensive!
I could only afford things below 1 billion credits; being the owner of the shop gave me a 90% discount voucher for each purchase; after all, I only have a hundred million credits or so.
Buying an aeon core is about the same price as contracting an aeon companion.
You might think it's a good deal, but not becoming an aeon comes with great limitations, such as being restricted to that specific path.
And once you stray from that path, that's the moment you'll die, so it's definitely risky if you fail to uphold your philosophy.
Once you embark on a path, you should see it through to the end; there's no changing it.
At least for most, because none of them have access to a convenient place like the shop.
I didn't want to fall into that kind of death trap; that's why I decided not to become a fully ascended aeon.
Simply because I don't want to lose my sense of self, unlike pathstriders who could change their respective personalities once they embark on a path.
An aeon does not have that choice; they become the personification of that path's concept.
While there's an item that could negate that problem, right now I simply couldn't afford it.
I could only buy a single top-tier concept such as eternity, dream, chaos and victory.
Each one of them is powerful and broad, but I could only choose one.
If only I could pick them all; sadly, I can only afford one.
After hesitating for a while, I decided to choose [ Victory ] over the rest, simply because it is a broader path than the others in the same tier.
However, I did not buy the full ascension path but a half-step Aeon or I would like to call it the Nascent Aeon.
Calling it half-step feels like an old ancestor who failed to step into a higher realm in a cultivation novel, basically a loser.
Nascent sounded better because, unlike half-step, it sounded like one step to success but failed.
Not to mention nascent means a newborn.
Anyway,y schematics aside, being a nascent aeon is better than a fully matured one, at least in my current situation.
I can't fully ascend yet, not without the limitation of becoming inhuman.
If the people in the honkai: star
rail could hear this, they would surely crucify this person for being ungrateful.
Becoming an aeon is something most people want to become, but are unable to because of the lack of opportunity.
But when that kind of opportunity becomes common, then naturally an ordinary person would choose the best outcome for themselves.
After all, if you choose between becoming an aeon or retaining your humanity, most would pick the former, but when there's an option of choosing both?
The choice becomes obvious; naturally, a normal person would definitely choose both.
Why pick one of you when you can have them all?
That's exactly my issue: knowing that I could become a godlike being, but the limitation is simply way too much for me.
Because I know that it's merely temporary, it's basically like this: becoming a fully ascended aeon on the spot, at the price of losing my humanity and risking death if I start to doubt my path.
Or wait for a while, and become a nascent version of that aeon and ascend in the future without the limitation while retaining my humanity.
Since I'm a relatively sane person, I would choose something that can get me both the benefits without the disadvantages.
Naturally, I chose the latter; it wasn't like being a nascent aeon is weak. In fact, it's ridiculously powerful that the only beings in my own world that could potentially best me are Ultimate Ones from other planets, basically TYPE-level existence.
The only reason they could even beat me if I were to fight them wasn't that they're powerful; a nascent aeon has stronger firepower than that.
But because of their extremely perverted mechanism, each one of them is basically a mechanical monster that you could only kill under very specific conditions; even if you have the entire universe as a source of power, you can't kill something that operates entirely on a rule.
It's like using a soft object to break an extremely solid object or using water to start a fire.
A doomed match-up, basically pointless because of the incompatibility between the two parties.
No matter how the other side did, it could never truly kill the other.
"Let's buy this one." I immediately bought the nascent core of the aeon of victory; while it was cheaper than the full ascended one, it still cost me 80% of my total money.
The core appeared, and bright golden light burst out across the room, catching the people around him off guard by this unexpected situation.
The former servants instinctively made a defensive stance, even though there was no real danger; regardless, this was something ingrained deep inside their bones as people who went through countless life-and-death experiences.
Slowly, the bright light faded; only the core remained. I tried grabbing it with my hands, but it passed through them.
I realized that the core wasn't a physical object, but rather a visual manifestation of what it looks like.
In the end, it wasn't something anyone could get. It's basically impossible for anyone to steal it unless their core is compatible with it.
I wasn't compatible either, but as the owner of this core, I wasn't rejected, and the nascent aeon core went inside my soul.
And almost immediately, my life level went through a drastic change; my mortal body was struggling to keep its form.
In the first place, a human body wasn't meant to handle this kind of enormous energy.
However, thanks to my desire to remain human, the core kept evolving my body until it could reach perfect compatibility with my body and, at the same time, keep my human form.
I feel really in tune with the essence of the world right now; this must be what enlightenment feels like.
For a brief moment, I could see a higher-dimensional being watching me,
reading my life exactly like a novel.
It wasn't just a single higher-dimensional being, but countless. However, that state didn't last long, and I was now back at the shop.
That feeling of enlightenment was unforgettable; however, I feel like I was forgetting something…
But after a moment, I didn't think much about it and focused on the changes in my body.
Honestly, I never felt so powerful in my life.
It was life. I'm in a permanent state of being high; I've never felt this good before.
With these new significant changes, I feel like I could destroy an entire planet with a flick of my fingers.
Not to mention the abilities I acquired; most of them are related to the concept of [ Victory ]. Some of them are ridiculous, ensuring that I will win no matter what.
And it was merely the ability of a nascent aeon.
What about a fully developed one?
Just thinking about it makes me feel excited.
I also started to notice that my path was starting to influence me little by little.
It was the type of influence that makes me eager to be the victor of any kind of competition.
And the thought of losing wasn't just unacceptable; it was unthinkable. He never thought about losing at all.
"Thankfully, it stopped there. If I fully ascended to a true aeon, I wouldn't dare to imagine what I would become. For now it's just a slight personality change and isn't that serious." Having to retain his humanoid form and becoming a competitive person was a fair deal for getting this kind of power.
At least it's within my control.
I finally noticed the two heroic spirits; they were looking at me like I'd attack them the moment I moved.
"What? You guys are staring at me like I'm some incomprehensible monster or something."
Emiya was the first one to recover, considering his experience as a former counter guardian. "From that amount of prana you're releasing, you might as well be."
I raised a brow at that. I'm a first-rate magus, and I'm very aware of whether I'm using prana or not; right now, I haven't released any.
But I couldn't dismiss his claim either because Emiya wasn't the type to lie in this sort of situation.
Not to mention, Morgan reacted the same way, meaning I was unconsciously releasing prana, but I had already controlled imaginary energy to the lowest setting possible.
Yet, they still sensed it and claimed that it was an outrageous amount.
If that's truly the case, then it could only mean one thing: I've become so powerful that the lowest setting could unleash an outrageous amount of energy.
Because I genuinely can't feel a damn thing.
—
A/N: At the lowest setting, he generates more prana than a dragon; that's how ridiculous he is to Emiya and Morgan.
