Chapter 251
For Kang Yiming, the vice-director, to offer such an assurance after being so sharply rebuked was both a great compliment to Chenyang and a huge show of respect for Liu Yun.
After all, Chenyang had been on the job for less than a day!
A junior doctor like him wouldn’t normally be given a second thought—not by the vice-director, and not even by a department head or other senior physicians.
And that was regardless of his medical skills. If there was one thing City Hospital didn’t lack, it was brilliant, highly skilled doctors!
To put it bluntly, given the negative impact Chenyang had on the hospital, Kang Yiming could have easily minimized the damage by firing him on the spot.
But he didn’t do that!
That alone was enough to earn the respect of both Liu Yun and Chenyang.
So, Liu Yun not only dropped the argument but also apologized for her earlier impulsiveness and rudeness.
Kang Yiming waved his hand magnanimously. "I understand how you feel; I worked my way up from your position, after all. But try not to be so confrontational in the future. You were lucky you ran into me. The other vice-directors aren’t nearly as easygoing."
Liu Yun smiled sheepishly. "I’ll work on changing that bad habit."
"Haha, if you could get rid of that swift and forceful personality, you wouldn’t be our great Director Liu. I’m not asking you to change, mind you. I’d be counting my lucky stars if you just reined it in a little."
Kang Yiming smiled. "Alright, the hospital is chaotic enough today. Let’s not all stand around here. Have everyone disperse and get back to their duties."
Liu Yun nodded, and assuming the authority of a department director, she dismissed the crowd in just a few words.
"Director Liu, I can take Chenyang to the Cardiology Department!" Angie offered.
Liu Yun shook her head. "No, you stay here and help me investigate this matter. I’ll have someone else take Chenyang."
"I can get there myself, you don’t need to find someone," Chenyang said, waving his hand.
"No. I’m not comfortable letting you go off alone right now."
Liu Yun rejected Chenyang’s request in a tone that left no room for argument, then made a call to summon a female doctor.
"Xiaoke, take Chenyang to the Cardiology Department and hand him over to Director Liu personally. Remember, you must see with your own eyes that he’s standing right beside Director Liu."
Chenyang recognized the doctor called Xiaoke.
Oh, no. To be precise, he had seen her before.
She was the young, pretty female doctor who had been with Liu Yun that morning when they went to An Xiaoqing’s office.
She didn’t seem to be one for smiling; she had worn a deadpan expression both when they met this morning and now.
Even when Liu Yun gave her the order, she had only given a slight nod.
"Xiaochen, you and Xiaoke should head over. I’ll come find you later when I’m done here."
"Okay, Sister Liu. Don’t work yourself too hard. As for my situation, I’ll think it over when I have a spare moment. I’ll let you know if I come up with anything."
With that, Chenyang and Xiaoke headed upstairs toward the Cardiology Department.
Along the way, Xiaoke kept her eyes fixed straight ahead, neither looking at Chenyang nor speaking. Even when others greeted her, she merely nodded in response. For a moment, Chenyang suspected the beautiful woman might be mute.
But just as he was silently lamenting the pity of such a beautiful woman being unable to speak, Xiaoke suddenly stopped in her tracks and turned around.
Caught completely off guard, Chenyang couldn’t stop in time and walked right into her.
His arm, which he had raised instinctively, landed squarely on her soft chest, right through her white coat.
’So soft!’
’So big!’
The incredibly soft sensation made Chenyang momentarily wonder if she had stuffed her bra, because from the outside, the young beauty didn’t look particularly well-endowed.
"Uh... sorry about that. I wasn’t expecting you to stop."
Xiaoke ignored Chenyang’s apology and said coldly, "You’ve only been here for a day, right?"
"Yeah."
Chenyang raised an eyebrow, a little confused as to why Xiaoke was suddenly asking this.
At the same time, he thought to himself, ’So not only is this beauty not mute, but she has a really nice voice, too.’
"You’ve only been here for a single day, yet you’ve already made Director Liu clean up your mess twice. Don’t you think you’re a bit of a magnet for trouble?"
Chenyang put on an innocent expression. "How is that my fault? This morning, I was just going to my interview when An Xiaoqing’s husband threatened me for no reason. This afternoon, I was just trying to save a life out of the goodness of my heart. Forget about getting a ’thank you,’ they turned around and framed me instead. I’m just as..."
"I don’t want to hear your excuses." Xiaoke cut him off, her tone shifting. "I don’t know what your relationship is with Director Liu, and I have no idea why she’s treating you so well, but please remember this: she is a very busy woman. Stop causing her this kind of unnecessary trouble."
Chenyang nodded helplessly. "Fine. I won’t cause her any more trouble."
"Let’s go."
Xiaoke took out her ID badge and swiped it by the glass doors to the Cardiology Department, then led him to the director’s office.
Kang Yiming and Liu Yun had already called ahead to brief Director Liu, so after a brief exchange, Xiaoke left.
Noticing the strange expression on Chenyang’s face as he stared at Xiaoke’s retreating back, Director Liu chuckled knowingly. "On the way to Cardiology, did our ’Little Master Extinction’ give you a scolding?"
