Chapter 243
Angie glanced around, and when she saw that no one was paying attention to them, she began to explain in a low voice.
"It was about last month. The emergency department admitted a pregnant woman who was bleeding after falling down the stairs. When she first arrived, her condition wasn’t critical.
The hospital ran some tests and found the bleeding wasn’t severe and had little effect on the fetus. So, they transferred her to the obstetrics and gynecology department for observation.
Once in the O&G department, the doctors conducted a more thorough examination and found only minor injuries. It was nothing serious; she just needed an IV drip and some rest.
But the next morning, the woman suddenly began to hemorrhage. After she was rushed to the emergency room, they barely managed to save her, but the baby was lost.
The hospital’s internal investigation revealed that the woman’s lover had visited her that night, and the two of them had sex. The hemorrhage was a direct result of that.
But after her family came and caused a scene, the final outcome was that both the ER doctor and the O&G doctor who had examined her that day were fired."
Chenyang asked, stunned, "It was clearly the lover’s fault. Why were the doctors fired?"
"Because that woman is the daughter of a pharmaceutical company CEO, and her husband is a high-ranking official at the Bureau for Industry and Commerce. Given their social standing, the affair couldn’t be made public. And for the sake of her marriage, the true cause of the miscarriage couldn’t be revealed either.
To bury the problem, the woman’s family pressured the hospital while simultaneously ’donating’ a shipment of expensive medicine.
Using a carrot-and-stick approach, and considering one doctor had just finished her residency while the other was a visiting physician, the hospital administration weighed its options and decided to make them the scapegoats."
Chenyang’s mouth twitched. "That’s just brazenly twisting the truth and calling black white. That’s complete bullshit!"
"It is bullshit, but that’s the harsh reality of it. The junior doctor who had just finished her residency was one of Director Liu’s subordinates. Director Liu argued with the hospital administrators about it many times, even threatening to resign, but it didn’t solve anything."
Angie sighed. "Once bitten, twice shy. Director Liu has that precedent in mind, which is why she’s being so cautious—almost paranoid—about the celebrity incident and what’s happening now."
Chenyang’s lips twitched. "It seems the City Hospital isn’t as perfect as I imagined."
"Every place has its good and bad sides. Honestly, if you compare, the City Hospital is already much better than many others. I heard from Aunt Qin that she was once hired to work at a private hospital for a while.
Things like tax evasion and overprescribing medication to rip off patients happened all the time there. When a medical accident occurred, they’d protect their own and immediately throw anyone else under the bus as a scapegoat.
In the case I mentioned, even though the City Hospital twisted the truth, they are generally impartial. Besides, they privately found the two fired doctors new positions that were just as good as their jobs here."
Hearing this, Chenyang’s impression of the City Hospital changed once again. He also understood that Angie and Liu Yun were just looking out for him.
After taking a deep breath, he said, "Thank you for your concern. But I didn’t misdiagnose this patient. And I’m confident I can cure him."
Liu Yun fell silent for a moment, then stopped trying to dissuade him.
She was worried about Chenyang because she was afraid of the potential fallout.
At the same time, however, a part of her believed in Chenyang. She hoped he could do something that would impress the hospital administrators and other directors. That was the only way for him to advance his career at the City Hospital.
Angie, however, was still very worried.
She knew that young people, especially peers of a similar age, often didn’t take criticism from superiors and colleagues humbly. They were prone to acting impulsively, driven by pride.
Her biggest fear was that Chenyang’s claim to be able to cure the patient was just a stubborn boast made in the heat of the moment.
After gathering her thoughts for a moment, Angie prepared to try and dissuade him again.
But before she could speak, Lin Xiaoyue suddenly cut in. "Doctors, is my uncle’s condition really bad? I don’t know anything about medicine, but I know that seeing the numbers on those monitors constantly drop can’t be a good sign.
And none of you look very confident. As his family, I hope you can tell me the truth. If he can’t be treated here, we can try to contact other hospitals."
Liu Yun frowned. "Miss Lin, your uncle’s condition is rather complex right now. It’s difficult for me to explain it to you in just a few words..."
"You don’t have to explain everything. Just tell me: can you treat him or not? And what exactly is wrong with my uncle?"
"He..."
"I’ll explain."
Chenyang stepped forward and explained the patient’s condition as well as his diagnosis.
"A damaged heart? Internal bleeding?"
Lin Xiaoyue didn’t understand medicine, but those were terrifying words for anyone to hear.
As she murmured, deep worry spread across her face. "Since you already know what the problem is, why aren’t you treating it?"
"We need to confirm one last test result before we can proceed with the targeted treatment."
"But can you cure him?"
Lin Xiaoyue had been raised by her uncle and grandparents; she and her uncle were as close as father and daughter.
Now, hearing that her uncle had a heart problem, she grew anxious and agitated.
As she asked, she stepped forward and grabbed Chenyang’s hand. "You can definitely save my uncle, right?"
"Yes, he..."
Just as Chenyang was about to give a firm ’yes,’ he suddenly felt a light flash from a zodiac diagram within his sea of consciousness...
