The Fragrance of My Hot Patients

Chapter 242

With the two department directors personally conducting the tests, the relevant examinations for the patient in bed four were quickly completed.

The test results would be ready in another three to four minutes.

However, during the tests, the two directors and the vice president had all stared intently at the monitor but couldn’t see any problems with the heart.

This made them doubt Chenyang all the more, and one of them couldn’t help but remark, "Looks like this was all for nothing."

"The information we can glean from the screen isn’t as comprehensive as the final report, but based on my experience, it’s highly probable the patient’s symptoms aren’t heart-related."

The vice president said with a smile, "Directors, let’s not be so quick to jump to conclusions. Although we didn’t see any issues on the monitor, Xiaochen’s analysis just now wasn’t illogical. It’s only three or four minutes, anyway. Let’s wait for the final results before we conclude anything."

The two directors exchanged a look. Though they said nothing more, their expressions still clearly showed their skepticism toward Chenyang.

Three or four minutes isn’t a long time.

But for everyone eagerly awaiting the results, the wait was agonizing.

The nurses stared intently at the machine, ready for the report to be printed.

The doctors frowned, their gazes flickering between the two directors and Chenyang.

They couldn’t figure out what was wrong with the patient, but instinctively, they sided with the two directors.

After all, their thinking aligned with the directors’: Chenyang was just a junior practitioner of traditional medicine who had just joined. If he couldn’t even treat a common cold, how could he possibly diagnose such a complex condition?

Meanwhile, Liu Yun and Angie, who had just arrived to deliver some medicine, were of two minds.

They really wanted to believe Chenyang.

But the patient’s condition was too complex and the illness too well-hidden. Furthermore, Chenyang’s conclusion was completely different from any of their own previous hypotheses.

If it were an ordinary patient, Liu Yun wouldn’t have been so concerned.

After all, Chenyang was new; even if he made a mistake, no one would make a big deal out of it.

But the problem was that the patient himself had a notable official background, and the niece who had suddenly shown up was very likely a celebrity.

If he made a misdiagnosis—or if that misdiagnosis delayed treatment and endangered the patient’s life—Chenyang would face all sorts of baseless trouble.

Even if it was just a misdiagnosis, the mistake would be blown way out of proportion if something happened to the patient.

At that point, even if he had never actually been involved in the treatment, he would be served up as a scapegoat for the hospital to appease the patient’s family and the bigwigs in related departments!

Her heart filled with worry, she couldn’t help but walk over to Chenyang and whisper, "Why don’t you go apologize now?"

Chenyang was baffled. "I haven’t done anything wrong. What is there to apologize for?"

"I already told you, this patient has a very high-status background. Besides, if you look closely, all the indicators on the monitor show his condition is deteriorating. In my experience, once things spiral out of control, he’ll be gone before we even get a chance to save him."

"At that point, as the last doctor who took charge of his diagnosis, you will immediately become the target of everyone’s blame. When the higher-ups and the family investigate, the hospital will pin all the responsibility on you just to quiet things down."

Chenyang scoffed. "So, you’re telling me to apologize now just to get me out of this whole mess?"

"Yes. You humble yourself, apologize, say something about being inexperienced, and then I’ll help smooth things over and find an excuse for you to leave. Then this whole thing will have nothing to do with you."

"Sister Liu, I think you’re being a little too cautious. First, my diagnosis is not wrong. Second, I am confident I can cure this patient. And finally, even if something did go wrong, a hospital this big wouldn’t really use a junior doctor like me as a scapegoat, would they?"

"It shouldn’t come to that, but it’s not as if it hasn’t happened before."

"Chenyang, you should listen to Director Liu," Angie chimed in, her voice low. "At first, I also thought Director Liu was making a mountain out of a molehill with the celebrity and all this, just needlessly worrying. But after I got back to the hospital just now and heard something, I realized her concerns are more than justified."

Chenyang asked curiously, "What did you hear?"
