My Succubus Harem System In The Reverse World

Chapter 123: Her Mouth Cut the Word Off

The almost-fight came in the third zone.

A launcher forced Rei to cut inside or let the package take a second hit.

She cut inside.

Gianna’s telekinetic field shoved her back on reflex, clean, professional, and unmistakably hostile in the residual.

Rei landed in a crouch, blood edge forming.

"Do that again—"

"You entered my lane."

"Your lane was empty, and the package was about to die—"

"Both of you stand down."

My voice came out cold enough that the hall seemed to narrow.

Not a plea.

A tactical order with no room for their history on the clock.

"Rei, outside line. Gia, you do not shove a secondary for proximity during a fail-condition run unless she’s about to put a blade in me. I will call crowding. You will not police it with kinetics. Next personal exchange, and I freeze both links and take the incomplete myself."

Silence held for one hard beat.

Rei’s smile was all teeth.

"Copy."

Gianna’s eyes were flat.

"Copy."

We finished the path.

The dummy took no further critical hits. The buzzer sounded. Yellow package integrity.

Objective technically met.

[Run result: complete — Package integrity yellow]

[Efficiency: Pass]

[Emotional stability: Yellow / fracture risk]

[Primary priority enforcement: Logged]

[Forced dual contact: Logged]

Jenna’s voice came from the glass after a delay that meant Mira had already highlighted half the essence in red and green.

"Pass with fracture risk," she said.

"Efficiency is up from this morning. Emotional stability is flagged. You corrected mid-run after a distribution error caused by over-focusing on primary distance pull. That error is on you, Revien. The recovery is also on you."

"Understood."

"Lawless, you tested the lane on purpose at least once. Everheart, your shove was clean and still personal. Do it in a board-scored mock, and you hand the examiners a teamwork failure they don’t care to interpret charitably."

Neither woman answered.

That was answer enough.

"Day three decides filing," Jenna said.

"Provisional window is under thirty-six hours. Eat, cool down, and do not turn the corridor into a second evaluation. Dismissed."

The glass went dark as the hall felt too wide.

Rei rolled her shoulder where the chain had caught her and looked at me like she was filing the drop order next to the forced brace next to the cold shutdown.

"You cut me first when it shook," she said, not quite an accusation.

"Again."

"That was the sequence."

"I noticed."

Irritation and respect sat in the same thin smile.

"So did she."

Gianna had already walked to the bench. She drank water without looking at either of us, jacket over one arm, mood quiet in the anchor channel in a way that felt like held breath rather than peace.

I stopped a few paces from her, not crowding.

"The package hit was on me," I said.

"I followed your pull instead of the objective line."

"I know."

She capped the bottle.

"You also dropped her when the node shook, and you stopped us before we turned the run into a grudge match. I’m not going to thank you for doing the job. I’m also not going to pretend I didn’t see the order."

"Trust tick or warning?"

Gianna’s eyes lifted to mine, red and unreadable.

"Both. Don’t make me choose which one in front of her."

Rei passed behind us toward the door, bag on her shoulder, voice light enough to carry.

"Tomorrow the mock won’t give you a yellow mercy. Try to want the package as much as you want her comfortable."

A pause.

"Second is still acceptable, Revien. Cold orders suit you better than drowning."

I watched Rei leave.

The private hall held only the cooling residue of the run, the dummy’s yellow indicator fading, and Gianna at the bench with her water bottle and her silence.

I sat beside her.

She shifted a fraction without looking, enough that her shoulder stopped being in line to brush mine.

The gap was small.

It still landed clean. I understood it. Understanding didn’t make it painless.

"That was reflex," Gianna said.

"I kissed you, remember."

A short breath left me, almost a laugh, not quite.

She had read the flinch and closed it with a fact, the same way she closed lanes on the mat. Bold. Straightforward. The version of her that had never treated me like a fragile question mark until I gave her reasons to.

The video came back whether I wanted it or not.

Rei had forced a timeline I should have forced myself.

Gianna had always been the one who met me without hesitation in her hands. I was the one who delayed, managed, let a vacuum form, and then watched her cry in a doorway because of what I had allowed to reach her first.

That thread was mine.

All of it.

It should have been—

"Stop that."

Her voice cut the spiral before it finished forming.

I turned.

"Was I rude today?"

She looked at me.

"You were."

"Did you like me being rude?"

"I’m not going to answer that."

"I’ll take that as a yes."

Her mouth curved, slight, unwilling, real.

"You were rude but proper. That’s how training should be."

"Yes. But that wasn’t the only reason."

Gianna closed the distance she had made. Her shoulder touched mine again, deliberate this time, a correction instead of an accident.

"You have hidden motives?"

I pulled one knee up toward my chest. Old-world habit. Something to do with my hands when the truth sat too large in my throat.

"I still have no real clue about dungeons," I said.

"How strong other awakeners are. How the deeper brackets operate when the core isn’t supervised, and the fail condition isn’t a yellow light on a dummy. When we enter a real gate, you will be my responsibility."

"I can take care of myself."

"I know."

I kept my eyes on the far wall, then on her hands, then on her.

"I want to take care of you too. I want my support to be something that helps you reach the goal, not something that carries you there whether you want it or not. You can use me however you need. My promise doesn’t change. I will be the best and only support you will ever need. And we will overtake Draven together."

Gianna’s eyes fixed on mine.

The anchor channel pulled once, sharp and quiet.

"You still remember."

"I remember everything we talked about. Every kiss we shared. Every time you smiled at me. Every time my heart skipped a beat when you held my hand. Every time I hesitated to say this out loud."

My voice stayed steady by force.

"So I’ll say it now. You’re the most important person to me, Gia. I will go to any lengths to keep you alive and standing. And I won’t think for a second before I sacrifice my—"

Her mouth cut the word off.

Gianna kissed me.
