Accidentally Pregnant With The Billionaire Heir

Chapter 174 - 173 The VIP Card Forgery

( EMILY )

The heavy silence in the lobby smells like roasted garlic, expensive truffles, and impending humiliation.

I slide the matte black piece of plastic across the polished mahogany host stand. It makes a sharp, definitive click against the wood. The card bears no name, no intricate designs, just the embossed insignia of the Azure Syndicate right in the center.

Vincent Ziggler stares at it. The manager of Bordeaux 101 goes completely rigid. The color drains from his cheeks, leaving his skin a pale, sickly gray under the warm glow of the crystal chandeliers. He swallows hard, his Adam’s apple bobbing above his tight silk tie. The arrogant sneer he wore just moments ago vanishes, replaced by a terrifying, wide-eyed deference.

"Miss." Vincent lowers his voice to a terrified whisper. He bows forward, his spine curving in a display of absolute submission. "I apologize. I will process this immediately."

I keep my posture relaxed, letting my hands fall to my sides. Beside me, Leo shifts his massive weight. My bodyguard stands like a brick wall in his tailored black suit, his eyes tracking every movement in the room. He senses the shift in power, the sudden drop in the room’s temperature.

Vincent reaches beneath the host stand with trembling fingers. He pulls out a sleek, obsidian tablet equipped with a specialized card reader. This is not the standard point-of-sale system used for regular credit cards. This device connects directly to the Azure Syndicate’s internal network, bypassing normal banking protocols.

He slides the card through the slot. A green light flashes on the top of the tablet.

"The physical card is authentic, Miss," Vincent says. He wipes a bead of sweat from his temple using the back of his wrist. "For Black Tier access, the protocol requires a biometric verification to match the registered owner. Please, place your finger on the glass."

He turns the tablet toward me. A small, illuminated square waits at the bottom of the screen.

I stare at the glowing green glass. My stomach drops. Warren Sinclair handed me this card personally. He told me it was a token of his appreciation, a symbol of ultimate protection across all Azure Syndicate properties. He never once mentioned biometric security.

I rub my thumb against my index finger. Did Warren lift my fingerprint from a wine glass during our dinner? Did he pull it from the contract I signed? I have absolutely no idea which finger he might have registered in their database.

The silence stretches. Naya Zone stands a few feet away, her arms crossed over her designer dress, tapping her stiletto against the marble floor. Her bodyguard, Quinn, watches me with open hostility.

I cannot stand here guessing forever. I press my right thumb firmly against the glass.

The scanner sweeps a line of light across my skin. I wait. Vincent watches the screen, his breathing shallow.

The tablet emits a sharp, negative tone. The green light turns a harsh, glaring red.

A digital prompt flashes across the screen in bold letters. **VERIFICATION FAILED. UNAUTHORIZED USER.**

( NAYA ZONE )

That glorious, beautiful error tone echoes through the lobby.

I let out a sharp laugh, tossing my hair over my shoulder. The heavy diamond necklace around my throat catches the light, sparkling with absolute superiority. I knew it. I knew this pathetic, plain-looking woman was nothing but a fraud.

"A forgery." I step closer to the host stand, pointing a manicured finger at the red screen. "You actually brought a fake Azure Syndicate card into Bordeaux 101. Are you suicidal, or just incredibly stupid?"

Emily Vance does not flinch. She just looks at her thumb, her expression maddeningly calm.

I scrutinize her cheap clothes, her lack of jewelry, her entirely unremarkable appearance. How did a woman like this even get her hands on a replica of a Black Tier card? My father, Congressman Marcus Zone, wields immense political power across Asuir City, and even he requires an appointment to meet with the upper echelons of the Azure Syndicate.

A sickening thought crosses my mind. Alistair Wolfe. Alistair must have procured this fake card to appease his pregnant, low-class wife. He married her out of obligation, tied down by the bastard growing in her womb. But to give her a forged syndicate card? That is a dangerous game, even for the CEO of the Wolfe Empire. Or perhaps Emily is sleeping around, trading favors with some mid-level thug who gave her a useless piece of plastic to impress her.

"Vincent," I say, my voice sharp and commanding. "Confiscate that fake. Throw this trash out into the street. My father is dining here tomorrow, and I will not have his favorite restaurant contaminated by criminals."

Vincent does not move to grab the card. Instead, he shrinks back, his hands hovering over the tablet. He looks completely terrified.

"Miss Zone," Vincent stammers, his voice cracking. "I cannot do that."

"Excuse me?" I narrow my eyes, stepping right up to the mahogany wood. "You are refusing a direct order from the daughter of the next president?"

"The protocol, Miss Zone." Vincent gestures weakly to the red screen. "The physical card passed the microchip scan. It is a genuine piece of Syndicate property. Only the biometric scan failed. Under the rules of the Azure Syndicate, a failed biometric on a Black Tier card triggers a mandatory manual override."

I cross my arms, my acrylic nails digging into my silk sleeves. "What does that mean in English, Vincent?"

"It means," Vincent swallows hard, his eyes darting toward Emily, "I am required to call the issuer directly to confirm the cardholder’s identity. I cannot rely solely on the system’s rejection. I have to call Mr. Warren Sinclair."

The name hangs in the air like a physical weight. Warren Sinclair. The billionaire boss of the Azure Syndicate. The most dangerous, unpredictable man in the underground world of Asuir City.

A thrill of vicious anticipation shoots down my spine. This is perfect. This is absolutely perfect.

Emily Vance is standing here with a stolen or forged card, and now the head of the syndicate is going to be notified. Warren Sinclair does not forgive trespasses. He destroys people for far less than impersonating his VIPs.

"Do it." I lean against the stand, a triumphant smile stretching across my face. "Call him, Vincent. Call Mr. Sinclair right now. Let us see what the king of the underworld thinks about this little rat parading around with his property."

Vincent wipes his forehead again. He looks at Emily, perhaps hoping she will run, hoping she will snatch the card and flee before he has to make the call. But she just stands there, her hands relaxed, her face a mask of absolute indifference.

"Call him," I demand again, my voice echoing off the marble walls. "Put it on speaker."

EMILY VANCE POV

I rub the pad of my right index finger against my thumb.

It was a fifty-fifty chance, and I chose wrong. Warren is meticulous. He poured my wine the night we dined here. He handed me the glass. He definitely lifted my index and middle fingerprints from the crystal stemware to register the biometric data on this card. It is exactly the kind of paranoid, controlling measure the boss of the Azure Syndicate would take.

I consider pulling the tablet back and asking Vincent to let me scan my index finger. It would save everyone a lot of time.

But I stop myself. I watch Naya Zone practically salivating, her eyes bright with malicious glee. She thinks she has won. She thinks I am a fraud, a thief about to be crushed by the full weight of the syndicate. She believes her father’s political title makes her invincible.

I drop my hand to my side, slipping it into the pocket of my slacks. Let Vincent make the call. It will be much more entertaining this way.

"Are you sure, Miss Vance?" Vincent asks me. His voice is a desperate, trembling whisper. He holds the restaurant’s secure landline receiver in his hand. "If I make this call, and Mr. Sinclair does not authorize you, the consequences will be severe. I will have to detain you."

"I am perfectly aware of the consequences, Mr. Ziggler," I reply, keeping my tone mild. "Make the call."

Leo shifts closer to me, his broad shoulders blocking Quinn’s line of sight. My bodyguard does not look worried. Leo knows exactly who I am and exactly what kind of backing I have. He crosses his arms, settling in to watch the show.

Vincent punches a short, encrypted extension into the keypad. His fingers shake so badly he nearly misses a button. He hits the speakerphone key and places the receiver down on the mahogany stand.

The dial tone rings out, sharp and loud in the quiet lobby.

Ring.

Naya smirks, adjusting her diamond necklace. She looks at me with pure, unadulterated pity. She is already imagining my demise. She is already picturing the syndicate enforcers dragging me out through the service exit, tossing me into an alley while she enjoys her overpriced escargot in the private room.

Ring.

I keep my eyes on the black plastic card resting on the table. The embossed insignia reflects the light of the crystal chandelier overhead. I think about my mother. I think about the bloody clown mask in my nightmares, the terror of my childhood, the absolute necessity of building my own power. I will not be stepped on by pampered socialites who rely on their father’s money. I will build Vanguard Medical University’s top research lab. I will build Sterling Pharmaceuticals into a global empire alongside Victor. I will stand at the very top of Asuir City.

Ring.

The line clicks. The ringing stops.

The lobby goes dead silent. The faint clattering of silverware from the dining hall seems to fade away completely. Even Naya stops tapping her foot.

A man’s voice fills the room. It is smooth, cultured, and laced with a dangerous, underlying edge.

"This is Sinclair. You are calling on an emergency override line, Vincent. Make it quick, and make it important."
