Chapter 84: Delusions of Persecution
After saying all that, the doctor took out a syringe, ready to stick it into the IV tube.
Xiao Ye suddenly grabbed his hand, a smirk on his face. "No need."
The doctor refused adamantly. "No, I can't do that. An insufficient dose of anti-inflammatories could easily lead to an infection, and that can be fatal!"
"As a doctor, I have to warn you. Even if it's not life-threatening, there's still a risk of amputation!"
Lin Chuyue, who was standing beside him, also tried to persuade him. "He's right. You should listen to the doctor. We don't want you to have any long-term complications."
Xiao Ye said nothing more. Instead, he shot out his other hand and ripped off the man's mask.
"You sure you're a doctor here?"
A flash of panic crossed the doctor's face, but he quickly composed himself.
"Of course I'm a doctor here! What do you think you're doing?"
"You're not cooperating with my treatment, and now you're questioning my professionalism? It's patients like you who make the doctor-patient relationship so toxic!"
The doctor scolded him, then gripped the syringe and tried to inject it again.
Xiao Ye raised his hand and grabbed the man's arm. "Even if you are a doctor here, you have a treacherous face, malicious intent, and shifty eyes. I suspect you're trying to harm me."
"Let go! One more stunt and I'll have you thrown out!"
The doctor grew frantic and yelled at Xiao Ye.
Xiao Ye wasted no more words and gave the man's arm a hard twist.
CRACK!
The doctor immediately let out a blood-curdling scream, clutching his hand and falling to the ground, yelling in pain, "My hand, my hand!"
His screams quickly attracted nearby medical staff and patients.
A nurse squeezed through the crowd. "Dr. Zhang, what happened?"
Dr. Zhang gritted his teeth. "He broke my hand!"
The nurse glared at Xiao Ye, her face filled with fury. "You… How could you do that!"
Lin Chuyue, standing nearby, frowned deeply and scolded in a low voice, "Xiao Ye, what are you doing!"
Dr. Zhang got to his feet with the nurse's help and glared at Xiao Ye. "I was trying to give you an anti-inflammatory shot! Why did you break my arm!"
"This man is dangerous! Call security! Pin him down! Give him a sedative before he hurts someone else!"
The other medical staff and patients whispered among themselves.
"Is this guy insane? Why would he attack a doctor?"
"He broke his wrist just like that! That's so brutal! He needs to be arrested."
"Hurry and get security over here! A man like that is too dangerous!"
As they spoke, the crowd backed away, putting distance between themselves and Xiao Ye, afraid of getting caught in the crossfire.
Seeing the fear in everyone's eyes, Xiao Ye said coldly, "He was trying to poison me. I only broke his wrist. He got off easy!"
Dr. Zhang's pupils constricted.
'With so many eyes on me, I can't afford to look guilty!'
After steadying his nerves, he immediately glared at Xiao Ye. "You lunatic, you're just making wild accusations! I'm a doctor here. I have no reason to hate you, no grudge against you. Why would I poison you?"
"I think you're paranoid! You need to be sent to a mental hospital for mandatory treatment!"
The nurse beside him was equally indignant, glaring at Xiao Ye as if looks could kill. "What nonsense are you spouting! How could Dr. Zhang possibly poison you!"
"Not only did you slander him, you hurt Dr. Zhang! Security! Get security over here! This man is a lunatic!"
"Kid, are you hysterical or something? Why would a doctor poison you? This is a hospital!"
"Exactly! What's the number for the psychiatric hospital? Someone call them and have them come pick this guy up!"
A doctor being assaulted in the hospital was no small matter. The department director and hospital president, having heard the news, also hurried over.
Security guards stood outside the door, blocking it to prevent Xiao Ye from escaping.
Seeing the director arrive, Dr. Zhang rushed to plead his case. "Director, I was trying to give this patient an anti-inflammatory injection. His condition is terrible, so he absolutely requires a sufficient dose."
"And what happens? He claims I'm trying to harm him! It's utterly absurd!"
"Director, the man is paranoid! We need to give him a sedative immediately, or he might attack someone else!"
The director nodded, signaling the security guards to move forward.
Xiao Ye ripped the IV drip from his hand and looked at them coldly. "So you're just going to take his word for it?"
"If I don't believe him, am I supposed to believe you?"
The director glared at Xiao Ye. "This is a hospital, and he's a doctor who saves lives! Why would he possibly harm you!"
"Get on the ground right now, or we have the right to take forcible measures!"
'Forcible measures?'
'With this bunch of nobodies?'
Lin Chuyue's brow furrowed. Xiao Ye had just been seriously injured saving her; she couldn't just stand by and do nothing.
"Director, I'll cover all of this doctor's medical expenses, and I'll offer generous compensation. I hope we can just let this matter drop!"
"Absolutely not!"
Dr. Zhang shrieked, "He's a dangerous man! I have a responsibility to this entire hospital!"
"Even if he is mentally ill, he must receive this anti-inflammatory injection, or the consequences will be severe!"
"I am a doctor! I don't care about compensation; I care about my patient's well-being!"
"Yes! Well said!"
The crowd of patients burst into applause. "Dr. Zhang truly has a healer's heart!"
"That's right. Anyone else would have taken the money first."
"But Dr. Zhang is standing on principle, worried about us patients. He's a role model for the entire medical profession!"
The crowd's flattery made Xiao Ye let out a sneer.
He looked at the syringe clutched in Dr. Zhang's hand. "You say that's an anti-inflammatory?"
"All right, how about this? You inject that into your own body. As long as you can prove it's harmless, I'll not only give you a public apology, but I'll also pay you two hundred thousand in compensation!"
Two hundred thousand?!
The onlookers were stunned.
That was no small sum. It was enough for a down payment on an apartment in Jiangcheng.
Everyone's eyes went green with envy, wishing they could trade places with Dr. Zhang.
Some of the more audacious ones even started inching toward Xiao Ye, hoping he'd break their wrists too.
Unfortunately for them, they were all held back by the security guards.
Hearing Xiao Ye's words, Dr. Zhang's heart skipped a beat in panic.
But he quickly feigned composure. "Are you kidding? This is an anti-inflammatory. It has to be administered through an IV drip; it can't be injected directly."
"Then use a drip," Xiao Ye said, turning to the director. "I told you he was trying to harm me, but you wouldn't believe it. As a hospital, you have a duty to be fair and impartial. You can't just take his side of the story and protect him without question."
"Who knows what's under that white coat—an angel of mercy or a devil in disguise."
The director's expression turned grim. "That's enough! Our doctors don't harm people. Stop trying to stir up trouble!"
"How about this," Xiao Ye said, changing his tack. "If you agree to have *him* administer the injection, I'll immediately invest two million in your hospital. That's enough to build a new inpatient wing."
The director froze, stunned. He never expected Xiao Ye to make such an offer.
Two million was certainly no small sum.
The crowd erupted in an instant.
"I'm suddenly getting the feeling he's not just making trouble…"
"Yeah, a guy who can casually toss out two million probably isn't going to target some random doctor for no reason, right?"
"But what if he really is crazy? He could just be talking big. What happens when he refuses to pay up?"
Dr. Zhang was now in a full-blown panic. "Director, you can't possibly believe this kid! Look at his shabby clothes! How could someone like him possibly come up with two million?"
"I tell you, he's just a lunatic, spouting lies to fool us! We can't let him lead us around by the nose!"
