Cannon Fodder In Apocalypse: I Rule With Sanctuary Evolution System

Chapter 102: Dead-Recalling Mirror

Ni Mengxue’s smile widened.

"Then that would be even better. We can get rid of all the ungrateful people and those with weak resolve once and for all."

Her words made Lu Yucai smile faintly.

Finally, he hugged her and said softly, "I know everything must have been very hard for you. Instead of becoming someone you had to take care of, I should have supported you."

Ni Mengxue smiled.

"It’s all right. Your presence alone was enough to comfort me."

..............................

Mo Beichan paced around his luxurious living room.

The entire space was decorated in pastel cream, with a semicircular sofa covered in soft cushions and an expensive rug beneath it. Bright ceiling lights illuminated the room, while the enormous television remained switched off.

The ceiling was nearly twice as high as that of an ordinary apartment, making the already spacious room feel even larger.

Everything, from the furniture to the flooring, looked as though it had been preserved from before the apocalypse.

It was difficult to imagine that anyone could still live this luxuriously in the post-apocalyptic world.

Once, this room had been Mo Beichan’s pride and joy.

He had constantly bragged to his friends about how talented his wife was and how she had given him a life of luxury even after the apocalypse. He used to claim that this place brought him peace.

But now, standing in the same room, all he felt was restlessness, anxiety, and a faint trace of resentment.

He couldn’t stop thinking about what Ni Mengxue had told him. ’What if she’s telling the truth?’

If she was, his reputation would be ruined. Su Yao would definitely leave him. And once she did, his health would deteriorate rapidly.

The more he thought about the possible consequences, the more frightened he became. "No. I need to confirm it."

Mo Beichan stopped pacing.

"I can’t simply keep an eye on Ni Mengxue. What if she’s only bluffing? She’s has changed so much. There has to be something wrong."

With that thought, he hurried toward the television. His hand automatically reached behind it and felt around for a moment. Click.

A hidden compartment slowly opened beneath the television.

Mo Beichan immediately reached inside and retrieved a handheld mirror.

Its wooden frame was intricately carved with skulls, bones, strange symbols, and words. The carvings gave it an eerie, ominous appearance. The mirror itself, however, was unnaturally bright and clear.

Mo Beichan stared at it. This was Su Yao’s gift to him after they got married.

At the time, she had handed it to him with a meaningful smile.

"This will be your lifeline and your way of maintaining your position. Remember to use it wisely."

He hadn’t understood what she meant until after their wedding.

Following Su Yao’s instructions, he had dripped his blood onto the mirror. The moment his blood touched its surface, it was absorbed.

Then Su Yao had asked him to find an item belonging to someone who had died. It could be a dead colleague, a family member, or anyone else.

Mo Beichan had brought his mother’s old hair clip, which he had kept for years. The mirror absorbed it.

And then his mother appeared within its surface. For several seconds, Mo Beichan had been too stunned to speak.

Su Yao had smiled charmingly.

"You should use it. This is your only chance to speak with your mother."

She had explained that the mirror could allow a person to communicate with someone who had died, but only once per deceased person.

There was another price. "Every time you use it, you’ll lose one year of your lifespan."

Mo Beichan had been stunned by the revelation. Yet he had also been deeply moved.

He had used that opportunity to tell his mother that he was no longer the loser whose academic achievements had always been overshadowed by Meng Xiaoni.

He had become a genius. A genius who now overshadowed Meng Xiaoni.

His mother had looked proud. She had even told him about a secret stash of wealth she had hidden before her death and instructed him where to find it.

Mo Beichan had followed her instructions. He had found gold bars exactly where she said they would be.

From that moment onward, his trust in the mirror had become absolute.

He treasured it like a king protecting his crown, making sure that anything capable of threatening his current life was dealt with.

And now, he needed to know whether anyone else knew his secret. There was only one person who could answer that.

King.

Mo Beichan had wanted to dispose of King’s clothes long ago. But after obtaining the mirror, he had realised how valuable objects belonging to the dead could be.

So he had kept them. Now, he took out the filthy, foul-smelling clothes. They were stained with blood and had been reduced to little more than rags.

Mo Beichan threw them onto the mirror. The mirror rippled. The clothes disappeared into its surface.

Mo Beichan immediately bit his finger and allowed a drop of blood to fall onto the glass.

His breathing became increasingly hurried as he waited. Soon, a face slowly emerged within the mirror.

King.

He was a dark-skinned man with fiery eyes and nearly bald hair.

Mo Beichan stared at him before quickly asking, "Is there anyone else who knows about me stealing the credit besides you, Su Yao, and Meng Xiaoni?"

King remained calm. "Yes. My girlfriend."

His expression was calm since the mirror had a special ability to ensure that the summoned doesn’t hold any negtaive feeling toward the summoner.

Mo Beichan’s heart stopped.

"I had already told her about my plan. She was my backup plan. She might even have obtained evidence of how you killed me."

Mo Beichan’s face turned deathly pale. He couldn’t believe it. His legs trembled violently, and he slowly collapsed onto the floor.

King’s image gradually faded. The mirror returned to its normal reflective state.

Mo Beichan remained sitting there for a long time. Then, slowly, he stood. Something had changed.
