Heavenly Illusions

Chapter 17- A Demon Spawn

At the base of a large mountain in the Grassland territory, a rather large burrow was dug there. For about a hundred meters surrounding this burrow, there was a clearing where it seemed the knee-high grass was flattened by a massive object.

It was at the edge of this clearing where our two protagonists were hiding while in their beast transformations.

An Mo was in his Divine Black tortoise form and Xai Lin was standing on top of his black shell in her eagle form. One was covered in glowing golden symbols and the other in black symbols. Both were using their own methods to hide their presence from the existence within that burrow over a hundred meters away.

“We’ve been waiting here for several hours now, are you sure that Spirit Beast always comes out in the morning to feed its younglings?”

Xai Lin lowered her head and whispered to An Mo.

Counting from the moment they began their stakeout; it had been nearly six hours. The morning dew on the grasses had long been dried, and by the position of the sun in the sky, the time was already approaching noon.

An Mo’s golden eyes flickered with confusion as he answered.

“I don’t know. After Big Brother Bai Nou mates with his partner, he would always take his offsprings out of the burrow to soak in the first rays of the morning sun. It’s strange that he isn’t out by now.”

“You—”

Xai Lin was somewhat speechless upon hearing An Mo’s words.

“How exactly are you so clear about these things?”

She stared down at An Mo beneath her with a strange look shimmering in her blue eyes.

“I—Uhh...”

An Mo stuttered for a moment, belatedly realizing he had let his thoughts slipped out unintentionally. Thankfully, a low rumbling sound echoed out from the burrow ahead, saving him from explaining to Xai Lin.

“Oh look, he finally came out!”

Xai Lin didn’t bother calling him out on trying to change the subject and instead turned her focus to the burrow.

As the low rumbling sound grew louder, she finally saw this panda Spirit Beast named Bai Nou.

Surprisingly, its size was much larger than she had anticipated. It could barely squeeze its body through the large opening of the burrow, and this was it standing on all fours. If it were to stand upright, it would be as tall as a thirty or forty-story skyscraper from her past life. As for its weight, no need to guess, it was like any other fat panda from her past life, just larger.

After barely managing to get out of the burrow, this massive panda called Bai Nou suddenly let out an exhausted sigh before collapsing onto its side. With another grunt, it turned and lay on its back.

After witnessing this scene, Xai Lin’s right eyelid twitched uncontrollably. She was really speechless this time. She thought back on what An Mo said about this Spirit Beast being the only one that didn’t run away from him, and she realized it was simply because it was probably slower than a donkey with broken legs.

Now that this Bai Nou was on its back, its baby pouch was fully exposed to the two youths. Its large body was almost large enough to cover the hundred meters or so of the clearing, but despite being so close they didn’t dare move back or forward. They also push their own concealment method to their limit.

They were waiting...

Suddenly, movement came from the baby pouch on Bai Nou’s belly, and not long after, a swarm of pandas swiftly crawled out and gathered on their father’s stomach.

Based solely on estimation, there should be around twenty or thirty of them, with each being at least twice the size of an adult human. Most of them resembled their father with black and white fur, but there were others with fully black or fully white fur.

One would think that getting a single drop of blood from this Spirit Beast should be easy given its enormous size, however, that was far from the case.

You see, one thing that wasn’t mentioned until now was that this overweight panda was actually at the peak of the Spirit Emergence Realm! That was a full three major realm higher than Xai Lin, who was at the peak of the Qi Gathering Realm, and two major realms higher than An Mo, who was at the early stage of the Foundation Establishment Realm.

Don’t let its slow appearance fool you, if they dare to approach carelessly, it didn’t need to make a move, just its Divine Soul and Spiritual Qi suppression could crush them.

Why do you think they didn’t dare move an inch from their position and instead further conceal their presence?

No, in order to get this job done, some special methods needed to be employed.

An Mo and Xai Lin glanced at each other and then nodded.

Xai Lin’s eagle form shifted to a small green snake before she stealthily slithered away through the grass towards the feet of Bai Nou.

Meanwhile, An Mo remained still while mentally going through their plan in his mind.

His and Xai Lin’s plan was actually rather simple. One would distract Bai Nou, while the other would take the chance to get a drop of his blood.

The only area where the difficult lay was how to create a sufficient enough distraction for one of them to approach.

An Mo had eagerly volunteered to be the distraction, and even though he hadn’t said at the time what his method of distraction would be, Xai Lin had readily agreed.

As for how An Mo would distract Bai Nou...

After closing his eyes and taking a deep breath, An Mo slowly inched his way forward and stopped just shy away from the edge of the clearing.

Glancing up at the large Bai Nou and seeing that he still had his eyes closed, An Mo made his move.

With a thought, his Divine Black Tortoise form expanded. His small, flat-feet elongated into four sturdy limbs with distinct fingers, while his leather-like skin turned into smooth and glossy bright orange fur. At the same time, golden symbols in the shape of a loop appeared around his head and enclosed at the center of his forehead. They resembled both a crown, and a type of shackle.

In the blink of an eye, An Mo had transformed into an orange-furred monkey.

The only thing left over from his form as a tortoise was his shell. His black martial arts attire had stretched to accommodate it on his back.

As soon as An Mo transformed, he leapt up and yelled loudly.

“Big Brother Bai Nou!!”

His voice was like a crash of thunder as it exploded in Bai Nou’s ears. With a “swoosh” his eyes flew open, and in an instant, his red pupils swiveled and locked onto the owner of the voice.

Upon seeing that bright orange figure, who was jumping from one foot to the other while waving up at him, Bai Nou’s red pupils constricted, while his massive body shook. These bodily reactions were purely instinct.

“You Devil Child, what are you doing here?”

Bai Nou asked, his entire being radiating a cautious aura. He had the mind to run back to his burrow, but he had just laid down, and his young ones hadn’t been out for long. If he tried to get up now, not to mention how much his young ones would complain, he himself was too lazy to move in such a short amount of time.

Bai Nou couldn’t help but curse internally at how this demon spawn had chosen such an opportune time to approach him.
