Heavenly Illusions

Chapter 12- Boundless Joy

Xai Lin opened her eyes, and a layer of gloom could be seen within them. With the amount of blood she took from An Mo, it allowed her to use her Heavenly Transformation Technique several times, however, it failed to analyze his bloodline each time.

Xai Lin released a long sigh, and the gloom in her heart was swept away. Even though she was unable to obtain An Mo’s bloodline, wasn’t the person himself right in front of her?

An Mo had already recovered before Xai Lin opened her eyes, but he kept his head down.

Xai Lin looked over at him and thought internally.

‘Since it’s come to this then I can only follow through with that back up plan.’

“It looks like I won’t be able to obtain your bloodline. But a deal is a deal, so hurry up and make your request.”

An Mo raised his head and looked at Xai Lin across from him. He hesitated, his index finger curling to scratch at the base of his thumb nervously. The force was great enough to leave red marks on his pale skin.

Xai Lin saw his hesitation, but she did not urge him any further. She just stood there with her arms crossed, watching him as he worked up the courage to speak.

It wasn’t until the silence prolonged for a full three minutes did An Mo’s hesitation began to fade. He licked his slightly dry lips before asking.

“You said you’ll unconditionally fulfill one of my requests, do you really mean it when you say you’ll do it unconditionally?”

Xai Lin nodded casually while saying.

“Yeah, but it can’t be anything that goes against my interests.”

An Mo let Xai Lin words rolled over in his heart. He then conjured his request in his mind, and after repeatedly confirming the wording, he finally opened his mouth and made his request.

“My request is...”

An Mo paused slightly to glance at Xai Lin, who was calmly staring at him, before continuing.

“...for you to become my partner.”

Xai Lin’s calm expression suddenly faltered, and her sparkling blue eyes widened as she looked at An Mo with an astonished expression.

“You... Are you serious?”

Xai Lin asked in an incredulous tone.

Upon seeing Xai Lin’s reaction, An Mo immediately became nervous.

’What’s wrong? Does she not want to agree?’

As this thought surfaced in his mind, An Mo quickly became defensive.

“Hey, what’s with your reaction? You better not go back on our deal!”

Xai Lin hesitated for a moment. The tips of her ears hidden by her hair turned slightly red, as she finally stuttered out.

“T-That’s not it, it’s just... I didn’t expect this would be your request.”

An Mo’s eyes lit up when he heard that and he hurriedly asked.

“So, does that mean you agree?”

Xai Lin turned her head to the side to dodge An Mo’s bright golden eyes that were filled with eagerness. She released a breath of air to calm down her racing heart.

Only after calming down did she think back on An Mo’s request and realized something.

Xai Lin turned to look at An Mo and asked skeptically.

“Before I agree, when you said you want to be my partner, what kind of partner did you mean?”

An Mo paused. He blinked and stared at Xai Lin with a somewhat bewildered expression.

“I... I meant a partner. You know, like a friend but closer.”

An Mo found it a bit difficult to put his meaning into words.

“Do you mean someone who will help you when you’re in trouble, and protect you when you’re in danger?”

An Mo’s eyes lit up, and he clapped twice before he shouted excitedly.

“Yes! Yes! That’s what I meant!”

Upon hearing An Mo’s confirmation, Xai Lin released a sigh of relief in her heart.

Luckily, she had asked what this brat meant before she completely misunderstood. She really thought he had fallen for her and wanted to become dao partners. Well, his request was within her expectations, so she soon put that matter aside.

At that moment, An Mo added, his voice still sounding excited.

“Also, that person has to tolerate me when I’m being annoying and not refuse me when I want to play!”

He then looked at Xai Lin, his golden eyes seemed to become several times brighter.

Xai Lin’s mouth twitched, and she couldn’t help but say.

“So, you do have self-awareness to know that you’re annoying.”

“He-he...”

An Mo giggled foolishly as he scratched his fluffy hair.

“So, you agree to my request?”

Xai Lin glanced at An Mo, and seeing the slight nervousness in his eyes, she smiled and said with a nod.

“Sure, why not. Your abilities will be quite useful to me in the future.”

Hearing Xai Lin’s confirmation, the slight nervousness in An Mo’s heart completely vanished, and what replaced it was boundless joy. He was so happy that he couldn’t help but bounce in place.

As An Mo twisted and turned his body, his arms and legs acted like they possessed a mind of their own as they moved about; desperate to express the boy’s inner joy.

With her hands on her hips, Xai Lin couldn’t help but smile when she saw An Mo’s actions.

Truly, he was like a bundle of energy that continuously emitted a warm light.

Xai Lin also noticed while interacting with An Mo that he seemed somewhat innocent. Though that was obvious given how open his emotions were. If it were those young masters and geniuses of the same age in the Human Realm, they would have already started learning how to scheme against friends and family for benefits.

Only a few would hold on to past sentiments when seeking benefits for themselves.

Thinking this, the loneliness that was starting to accumulate in Xai Lin’s heart during this year away from her family in the Sect, and even her previous life, started to diminish bit by bit. This was because she now had someone to accompany her in this somewhat unfamiliar but familiar world.

Even though said person could be annoying at times.

An Mo’s joy seemed to have rubbed off on Xai Lin. Watching him dance about, she found herself clapping and cheering him on.

With such an enthusiastic audience member, An Mo immediately got carried away. Only when he started swaying his small, perky butt, and Xai Lin’s crisp laughter echoed out, did he feel too embarrassed to continue.

Before his pale skin could flush red, An Mo quickly transformed into his Three-legged Divine Crow form.

With her entertainment interrupted, Xai Lin could only sigh with regret.

“Why did you stop? It was just starting to get good.”

Xai Lin looked down at An Mo with an amused smile on her lips.

An Mo flapped his wings and said in an annoyed tone.

“Xai Lin! You’re not allowed to make fun of me! I was just too excited and got carried away.”

“Heh. Okay. I’ll change out of these clothes, and afterward you can tell me what you want me to do first as your partner.”

After saying this, Xai Lin took out a new set of robes from out of nowhere and turned around to change.

Upon hearing her words, An Mo’s eyes lit up and he hurriedly said.

“Great! There is a seal covering the Low-level Dimension that blocks me from leaving, so you just need to find a way for me to get out of here!”

Upon hearing this, Xai Lin’s hands shook and the clothes she was holding almost slipped from her grasp. She turned back to look at An Mo with an incredulous expression on her little face.
