Chapter 95: Every Scent Within a Thousand Meters
That afternoon, Yu Xian sat in the garden, basking in the sun. From time to time, he would lock Little Dummy inside a spatial bubble, then let it out again once it started getting anxious.
At first, Little Dummy would anxiously ram itself against the spatial bubble. But after several such attempts, it simply gave up. This proved that Little Dummy was indeed a living creature, not an inanimate object. It had thoughts and even a temper. Naturally, it could be trained too.
However, Little Dummy did not let down the name Yu Xian had given it. Even after Yu Xian used spatial bubbles again and again to place the Golden Crow on his shoulder or tried to guide it into flying toward a designated target, every attempt failed. Aside from flying around above his head, the Golden Crow did nothing but slack off inside its spatial bubble.
Just as Yu Xian was about to give up on its training, his Perfect Lifeform Heart thudded violently. In that split second, he selected Super Smell, and a torrent of heat surged from his heart straight to his nose. He touched his nose, only to realize he was bleeding there.
The next second, as he breathed, every kind of scent flooded into his mind. His eyes instantly rolled back, and he twitched on the lounge chair. But he managed to manifest a spatial bubble at his fingertip and expand it to envelop him, cutting off every scent.
Yu Xian recovered only after a good while. He then took out some tissues from his spatial ring and wiped away the nosebleed, still shaken inside the bubble. "Super Smell is way too ridiculous."
Just now, he had felt as though with every breath, he could sense the countless scents Silver City had accumulated over thousands of years. On top of that, he could trace those scents back to their source or even identify exactly who had left behind a pile of crap based on smell alone.
Taking it one step further, he could analyze through smell exactly how that pile of crap had changed in the person's intestines, how it had changed in their stomach, and what food it had originally been.
He would have been able to handle a small number of scents, but managing the scents of the entire Silver City was far too overwhelming. Super Smell's effect was too complicated; his brain could not handle its load.
Originally, Yu Xian had planned to activate Super Smell, then continue saving energy and grind toward Pangu Immortality. But now, he had no choice but to activate Super Brain first.
Super Brain could not turn an idiot into a genius. At most, it could improve a person's memory and increase the speed at which their brain processed information. It was equivalent to replacing a computer's CPU with a more powerful one while leaving the software inside unchanged.
The Perfect Lifeform was the perfect example. It came with Super Brain, but it was not smart. Its brain simply processed information faster.
Right now, Yu Xian needed Super Brain to process the enormous amount of information collected by Super Smell. If he could not solve this issue, then awakening Super Smell would become a burden instead.
For the time being, he would use a bubble to block off scents. Otherwise, if information from the scents continued occupying his brain, he did not know whether he could last until the day he awakened Super Brain. Or rather, even if he could awaken it, by then, his brain would be filled with useless information. Would he still have enough self-awareness to choose an ability?
Still, it was not as if Super Smell was completely unusable. Yu Xian controlled the spatial bubble and tried letting in the scents within only one meter of him.
His brain instantly sensed the fresh fragrance of leaves and the earthy scent of grass. As he probed deeper, he sensed earthworms beneath the soil, as well as all kinds of insects he could not name.
Although his brain was not a Super Brain, since he was a supernatural being, it was still quite capable. At the very least, his ability to process information was far stronger than that of an ordinary human.
One meter was no problem. Next, Yu Xian tried letting in the scents within a ten-meter range. Rusty nails buried underground, a pair of torn shoes left behind when the workers built the house...
Yu Xian frowned when he realized that quite a bit of construction waste was actually buried beneath his home. He even discovered some food waste that the workers had left behind. For some reason, he simply knew that these bones had been left behind on a certain day five years ago. Through their faint scent, he also knew exactly how those bones had been cooked.
Super Smell was far too incredible. This had gone far beyond the scope of ordinary smell. It was completely a superpower.
Yu Xian continued trying to expand the range of scents he let in, from ten meters to fifty meters, then from one hundred meters to one thousand meters. In the end, he determined that he could withstand information from within only a thousand meters around him. Once it exceeded that radius, his brain would struggle with processing it.
One thousand meters was actually already quite good. Yu Xian flew out of the villa while sitting inside the bubble, sensing everything around him through scent: a snake hiding by the river, people driving their cars, passengers secretly passing gas, and passersby moving lifelessly.
He slowly moved toward a more crowded area. When the information became denser, he had no choice but to shrink the range from the original one thousand meters down to five hundred meters.
Walking down the street, he suddenly caught a familiar scent. It was sweet, innocent, and unmistakably Nora's. "Huh? That's Nora's scent!"
Then he caught another scent somewhat similar to Nora's. However, compared to Nora's scent, this one was more complex. The other person had traces of at least two men mixed in.
Yu Xian's heart stirred. "Nora's mother?"
He enhanced his brain with Silver Blood, then took another deep breath of the surrounding air. In an instant, his brain sorted and categorized a massive amount of scent information. It even used the molecular structure of the scents to deduce images.
For example, when a person smelled roses, an image of roses would naturally appear in their mind. When they smelled roast chicken, an image of roast chicken would appear in their mind.
Super Smell could easily convert large amounts of information into images like this, allowing the host to "see" the source of those scents. Of course, this required a brain good enough to handle it. A weaker brain would only crash from receiving too much information all at once.
For now, Yu Xian could use this ability only while his brain was enhanced by Silver Blood. He estimated that once he activated Super Brain, he would be able to use it freely as part of his normal state.
At this moment, it was as if Yu Xian could see Nora, several hundred meters away in the crowd, wearing a white dress and walking together with a middle-aged woman who resembled her. There were also quite a few bodyguards around them, all of them armed.
Yu Xian opened his eyes and looked downward, instantly locking onto Nora and her mother. "So, it really is Nora's mother."
Originally, he had assumed that Nora's mother was a supernatural being, but she turned out to be an ordinary human. However, her aura was very distinctive, carrying the bearing of someone used to standing above others. Someone who could get involved with a Duke of the Blood Race definitely could not be an ordinary person. Even if she was not a supernatural being, she had to belong to a special class among ordinary humans.
Besides, if Nora's mother wanted to become a supernatural being, it would probably not be difficult for her. Yet she had not become one. That was something worth thinking about. Either she was open-minded enough not to care, or she had even greater ambitions and was pursuing a much grander future. Whichever it was, Yu Xian felt that Nora's mother was definitely not as simple as she looked.
