Chapter 199: Brooke York Brainwashes Chloe York
When Brooke arrived outside Miles York’s office, his secretary immediately came out to greet her. He recognized Brooke right away.
"Ms. Brooke!"
"Is my dad in his office?"
"Yes, he is. Please follow me." The secretary led the way, and Brooke followed closely behind.
Approaching a door, the secretary knocked. Only after hearing a voice from inside saying to come in did he push it open. "Right this way, Ms. Brooke!"
"Dad!" Brooke called out as she entered the office.
"What brings you here?"
Hearing her voice and looking up to see Brooke, Miles was quite surprised. She hadn’t visited his company once since she moved back.
Brooke glanced at the secretary, who had already tactfully retreated and closed the office door.
"Dad, you can’t agree to let Chloe York sever ties with our family. Her name cannot be removed from our family registry."
Miles hadn’t expected Brooke to object. Considering how Chloe had stolen her identity for over a decade and usurped her rightful place, shouldn’t Brooke be eager for Chloe’s name to be removed?
Why would she disagree?
"Why not?" Piqued, Miles leaned back in his chair and gestured for her to continue.
"She enjoyed the benefits of the York Family for over a decade. Besides, she’s incredibly popular on the internet right now and can bring immense profit to our family. If her name is removed from the registry, it’ll definitely negatively impact our company!"
On her way here, Brooke had anticipated this. She knew that if she objected, Miles would definitely ask why. Therefore, she had planned her words in advance, tailoring them to satisfy him.
Her words indeed pleased Miles. He was also quite surprised by Brooke’s current level of insight.
"Not bad. You truly are my daughter. You’re starting to look at the big picture now instead of getting hung up on trivial matters."
Hearing his praise, Brooke offered a bashful smile.
"So, Dad, you absolutely must not agree to it."
"I’m on the same page as you. I don’t agree either."
Brooke stayed quiet, sensing that Miles wasn’t finished. Sure enough, after a brief pause, he continued, "However, Chloe is incredibly determined to transfer her registry out! Do you have any ideas on how we can make her drop this idea?"
Miles looked at Brooke, waiting for her to come up with a solution. This was undoubtedly a test to see if she had the capability to resolve the issue.
Brooke hadn’t expected him to throw the problem back at her. How was she supposed to have a solution?
This was a mission issued by Chloe’s system, and completing it would grant her a reward. Unless they could offer a reward better than what the system provided, Chloe wasn’t likely to give up on transferring her registry.
But she didn’t even know what reward Chloe’s system was offering! Without knowing that, how could she possibly offer something better?
"Dottie, help me out!" Out of options, Brooke could only turn to her system, Dottie, for assistance.
"How do you want me to help you, Host?" Dottie asked.
Dottie had no idea how to assist her either.
"Is there no way for you to find out what reward Chloe’s system is giving her?" Brooke asked.
"There’s no way for me to do that," Dottie replied. "Furthermore, I don’t even know which of her systems issued this mission. If we knew which one it was, we could tailor our approach accordingly."
Brooke found Dottie’s reasoning sound. If the mission was from the Physical System, then the reward would definitely be a physical enhancement. If it was from the Scholar System, it would be an academic reward. But right now, they had absolutely no clue which system had issued the task!
Not to mention, Chloe had a third system whose function was completely unknown. One was speculated to be the Scholar System, but the remaining one was a total mystery.
As Brooke pondered this, her eyes suddenly lit up. She figured she knew exactly how to make Chloe change her mind.
Raising her gaze, her eyes shone with determination. "Dad, leave this matter to me. I will definitely get it done."
"You’ve thought of a way to make Chloe change her mind?" Miles’s tone was tinged with surprise. He hadn’t expected her to come up with a plan so quickly.
"I think I have."
Sensing that Brooke had no intention of revealing her plan to him, Miles didn’t press her for details. As long as the final outcome was satisfactory and aligned with what he wanted, it would prove that she was useful and capable of problem-solving.
"Alright, then go ahead. I’ll be waiting to see your results."
"Okay! I’ll be taking my leave then, Dad!"
Miles nodded and resumed reading his documents.
After leaving the company, Brooke went straight to look for Chloe. Of course, she couldn’t find her immediately, as there were no classes today.
Therefore, she had no choice but to wait downstairs at Chloe’s apartment building. Since she had been chased out by security the last time, she was currently barred from entering Chloe’s residential complex entirely.
"Host, what exactly is your plan?" Dottie asked.
"Later, when I’m talking to Chloe, you need to quickly scan and find out what her other system is. That way, I can tailor my strategy."
"Tailor your strategy?" Dottie asked in confusion.
"Yes." Brooke crossed her arms over her chest, a smug look on her face. "I refuse to believe Chloe isn’t terrified of her systems being exposed to the public. I can negotiate terms with her. If the mission is from the Physical System, I can offer her money to abandon it. If she really has the Scholar System, I can pay her off for that, too. As for her final, unknown system, we’ll just have to cross that bridge when we come to it. Regardless, I’m pretty sure throwing money at the problem will solve it one way or another."
Dottie suddenly felt that Brooke was being overly confident. What if Chloe’s other two systems didn’t include the Scholar System, but were instead insanely overpowered ones? What if they were systems whose value couldn’t be measured by money at all?
But seeing its host looking so self-assured, Dottie didn’t want to burst her bubble and opted to keep its virtual mouth shut.
Brooke waited at the entrance of Chloe’s residential complex for almost half the day. It wasn’t until the sky grew dark that Chloe finally came out.
"Chloe York!"
"What do you want?" Catching sight of Brooke, Chloe instinctively frowned, wondering why this person was haunting her like a lingering ghost.
"Chloe, I’m not here to cause trouble today. I want to make a deal with you," Brooke stated directly, skipping the pleasantries.
"A deal?"
"That’s right!"
"I don’t think we have any deals to discuss."
"How could we not? You want to transfer your registry out because of a mission your system gave you, right? Once you complete this mission, your system will reward you. Isn’t that so?
"So how about this: whatever reward the system is going to give you, I can just compensate you with money. In exchange, you abandon the system’s mission. Of course, if you refuse to cooperate, I’ll tell everyone about your systems. If that happens, you’ll be the one losing out!" Brooke’s tone was laced with a blatant threat.
