Chapter 193: Chloe York Is Going Abroad?
Ethan Prescott had spotted Brooke York blocking Chloe York’s path from a distance. Knowing Brooke’s true colors, he assumed she had to be bullying Chloe again. That was why he had come over to warn her, only for her to completely ignore him.
"Ethan, you’re wronging me! I wasn’t harassing Chloe!" Brooke protested.
"You weren’t?" Ethan scoffed, his face full of disbelief. Because Brooke was the true biological daughter, she constantly blamed Chloe for taking her place in the York family for over a decade. He didn’t believe for a second that Brooke was capable of getting along peacefully with Chloe.
"Let me tell you this, Brooke York. Whether you were harassing and bullying Chloe or not, I won’t let you get away with it," he threatened.
Brooke’s temper flared at his words. "Ethan Prescott, I’m the one who is supposed to be your fiancée! Chloe York is nothing!"
"Chloe and I grew up together as childhood sweethearts. That is something you can never compete with."
Ethan’s gaze was downright hostile. Brooke clenched her fists, wanting nothing more than to blurt out what the system had told her.
"Host, you can’t say it yet! You can’t tell the male lead," Dottie suddenly warned in her mind, terrified that Brooke would let anger get the better of her and reveal that she was bound to a system and that this world was just a novel.
With the system’s reminder, Brooke forced herself to calm down. She took a deep breath, slowly exhaled, and swallowed her bitter resentment.
Seeing Brooke acting strange again, Ethan decided he had said enough. He had delivered his warning, so he turned and walked away without another word.
"Ethan Prescott, you’ll regret this! You will absolutely regret treating me like this!" Brooke shouted at his retreating back, hurling a harsh threat. "Let me tell you, even if you beg for my forgiveness in the future, I won’t give it to you!"
"Don’t be angry, Host. The male lead refusing to cooperate with the female lead or falling for a supporting character will only end badly for him. It won’t affect the female lead at all," Dottie assured her.
The system’s words made Brooke feel slightly better. "Hmph, I’ll wait for the day karma bites Ethan back."
Meanwhile, Chloe was abruptly called out of her class by her advisor and taken directly to the principal’s office.
"Chloe," the principal began, sharing his proposal. "We would like to invite you to represent our university as an exchange student in Morvan. The school will cover all of your tuition and living expenses. Have you ever considered something like this? Would you be willing to go?"
Chloe was quite shocked that the university had chosen her to study abroad as an exchange student. "I would love to go," she answered.
She hadn’t had the chance to study abroad before, so of course, she was going to seize this opportunity.
"That’s wonderful! Chloe, if you study abroad, you’ll be making our country proud!"
"Huh?" Chloe didn’t quite catch the principal’s meaning. It was just studying abroad—how did that equate to making the country proud?
"You don’t know? The story of your heroic rescue is currently spreading all over foreign websites."
Chloe genuinely had no idea. She thought the news had only circulated domestically!
"Oh, Chloe, you should really spend a bit more time on the internet. You have so many fans online now! If you opened a social media account, you’d have millions of followers at the very least."
Chloe simply smiled at the principal’s suggestion. She had no intention of starting an account. The internet was a double-edged sword. Where there were fans, there were also haters, and she honestly didn’t have the mental fortitude to withstand online attacks from internet trolls.
"Well then, I’ll have the forms brought to you to fill out later," the principal said. "You should start preparing. Take your time to discuss it with your family or anyone else if you need to. There’s no rush."
"Principal, there’s no need to discuss it. I accept."
"That’s fantastic. Alright, start getting ready. Your advisor will give you the paperwork to fill out when the time comes."
"Okay."
Stepping out of the principal’s office, Chloe immediately initiated a voice call to Wendy Winters. Halfway through the ringing, Chloe suddenly realized that it was currently nighttime on Wendy’s side of the world!
Just as she was about to hang up, Wendy answered the call.
"Oh my gosh, my precious Chloe is actually calling me! I almost missed it!"
"I forgot it’s nighttime where you are and that you were already asleep."
"Oh, please, with our relationship, there’s no need for formalities! As long as it’s you calling, I’d pick up even if it were the end of the world."
Hearing Wendy’s words, a bright smile spread across Chloe’s lips, and genuine happiness reached the depths of her eyes. "I have good news for you. Take a few deep breaths and stay calm."
"What good news requires so much caution?"
"I’m going to Morvan."
"Oh, you’re going to Morvan. Why are you... Wait, what did you just say?"
Even without seeing her, Chloe could picture Wendy perfectly—she had definitely been lying in bed, failing to process the words at first, before abruptly springing up like a coiled spring.
"Chloe, you’re coming here? Really? You’re not joking, are you?!"
"Do I look like the kind of person who jokes around?"
After speaking, Chloe held her phone away from her ear, anticipating a deafening shriek at any second. Sure enough, a high-pitched scream erupted from the speaker.
Chloe waited a moment before bringing the phone back to her ear. Wendy had finally finished screaming.
"Chloe, I’m so incredibly happy you’re coming! You have no idea how bored and helpless I’ve been abroad all by myself. I have no one to hang out with, and I’m so lonely!" By the end of her sentence, Wendy sounded incredibly aggrieved.
But then she suddenly realized something. "Wait, Chloe. Why are you coming to Morvan? Did the York family force you to leave the country because they think you’re getting in Brooke’s way? If that’s the case, you absolutely cannot leave! You have to fight them head-on to the bitter end!
"No, wait, how about this—I’ll find time to fly back and help you deal with them. I refuse to believe the two of us can’t handle those two old folks and that one brat!"
This was exactly why Chloe had agreed so quickly when she learned she could go to Morvan, and why she had called Wendy right away. Wendy was the person who cared about her the most.
"It has nothing to do with them. I’m going to Morvan as an exchange student for Southbend University," Chloe clarified.
By this time, she had already reached the campus gates. Completely engrossed in her conversation with Wendy, she failed to notice a black sedan parked a short distance away.
Sitting inside that black sedan was none other than Adrian Kane.
After sending all those gifts to Chloe, he had specifically asked the delivery staff if she had said anything upon receiving them. They reported that Chloe simply accepted the items without saying a word.
Because of that, he had made a special trip today just to check on her. Seeing Chloe talking on the phone the entire time, his mind subconsciously jumped to the conclusion that she might be talking to that guy. Moreover, she had a constant, radiant smile on her face. Whoever was on the other end of the line had to be someone very close to her.
