Chapter 190: Dottie Learns Chloe York Has Several Systems
"Chloe York, you have a system. You definitely do! Your system helped you catch criminals, right? You’re bound to a criminal-catching system."
The more Brooke York spoke, the more plausible it seemed. She admired her own brilliance, while smugly declaring, "I’m telling you, Chloe York, I have a system too."
Hearing Brooke openly admit to having a system and seeing her triumphant expression was rather amusing to Chloe. Was she supposed to be afraid just because Brooke had a system? At worst, she would just deal with whatever came her way.
"It seems you really are the fated female lead, then. You even got a system, just like in a novel," Chloe said, her tone tinged with mockery.
"Of course I am," Brooke said with immense self-satisfaction. "Let me tell you, I’m the female lead, and I have a system. You’ll never be a match for me. As the female lead, I’ll eventually trample you beneath my feet, because you’re nothing but an NPC."
"Alright. Let’s see how you and your system manage to trample me." With that, Chloe turned and walked away.
Brooke’s voice echoed from behind her. "Just you wait and see!"
In Brooke’s eyes, Chloe’s departure looked exactly like a hasty retreat. She believed Chloe was terrified after hearing about her system. But no matter how scared Chloe was, it wouldn’t change the fact that Brooke now possessed a system of her own.
"Dottie, when I was talking to her just now, did you sense a system on her?" Brooke asked her own system.
Just this morning, Dottie had informed her that it had unlocked a function to detect whether another person possessed a system. Although Dottie had previously claimed Chloe was lying when she denied having one, Brooke still wanted absolute confirmation.
"Host, I just checked. She definitely has a system," Dottie replied.
Hearing Dottie’s words, the corners of Brooke’s mouth curled up. "She really has a system. I knew it! Chloe York, oh, Chloe York... No wonder you changed so much. It’s all because of a system! I bet I guessed right, too—it’s a crime-solving system."
"That’s right, Host. She has a system, and it seems like she has more than one!" Dottie added.
"What?!" Brooke was shocked. She had suspected Chloe might have a system, but she never imagined there would be more than one.
"How many systems does she have exactly?" Brooke’s tone grew urgent. She only had one system herself, so why should Chloe get more than one? How many did she have? What kind of systems were they? With only one system, could Brooke really beat her?
"Host, I have no way of checking how many systems Chloe has, nor can I find out what types they are. I won’t be able to know until the next time you come into contact with her. I’ll need to sense them again then," Dottie explained.
Hearing this, Brooke suddenly felt her system was rather useless. It had taken so long to bind to her in the first place, and now that it had, it couldn’t even figure out how many or what kind of systems her opponent had. What was the point of it? She fell silent, visibly angry.
"Host, you don’t need to worry. With me here, no matter what kind of systems the other party has or how many there are, I can help you," Dottie reassured her.
Suddenly recalling Chloe’s earlier words, Brooke hurriedly sought confirmation. "Right, Dottie, Chloe just said I was the fated female lead. When she said that, I didn’t see any marker indicating she was lying. Am I really some fated female lead?"
Generally speaking, if Chloe was just trying to fool her and talking nonsense, a lying marker should have appeared because it wouldn’t be true. But nothing had appeared!
"Host, please wait a moment. I need to check," Dottie said.
Ever since binding to Brooke, the system had assumed Chloe was the female lead of this world. After all, Chloe had been bound to a system much earlier, and its own host, Brooke, was undeniably a villain.
"Host, I found it. You are indeed the female lead," Dottie reported. "It’s just that this world is actually a novel. You are the female lead, and Chloe is a supporting female character."
Even Dottie was surprised. It had thought this was just a regular world in some dimension, never expecting it to be a novel. It could only blame the fact that it was an intern system, so it hadn’t received a lot of information yet and lacked many permissions. It had only just unlocked the ability to view the background of this world.
Brooke was also quite shocked to hear that their world was a novel. Her life had been so bitter—having her identity switched, scoring zero on her exams, suffering from cyberbullying—all these things had felt incredibly real. Yet, she was living inside a novel, and she was the female lead.
"Then that’s way too unfair to me as the female lead! I feel like Chloe is more like the female lead. She got a system before I did, and she’s bound to so many of them," Brooke complained, her anger flaring up again.
"Host, she’s the vicious supporting female character. Those characters always have it good at the beginning, but things definitely go wrong for them later. Don’t worry, her ending will revert to what was written in the book. The only reason things are like this now is because she has a system. Once her system leaves, everything will go back to normal," Dottie consoled her.
"What is the ending in the book like?" Brooke asked.
"You become a strong, successful businesswoman and get together with the male lead, Ethan Prescott. Chloe ends up pregnant out of wedlock and wanders the streets," Dottie replied.
Hearing this ending, a smug smile formed on Brooke’s lips. "Fine, I’ll believe you then. I really hope things turn out just like you said, and everything goes back to normal."
"System, does Brooke really have a system? Are there other systems in this world?"
Having walked far enough away to ensure Brooke wasn’t following and couldn’t hear her, Chloe questioned her system. She knew the power a system could bring. If Brooke truly had one, it would be fine if it were something similar to hers. Her fear was that Brooke might be bound to a system designed to target her. If that were the case, she might genuinely be no match for Brooke.
"Host, I feel that Brooke might actually have a system. I sensed the aura of a fellow system just now, and it was coming directly from her when she was talking to you," the Godly Rich System responded.
"So she really does have one. Can you sense what kind of system she’s bound to? Could she be bound to several systems like I am?" Chloe was understandably a bit worried upon confirming the truth.
"I can’t tell," the Godly Rich System admitted. "Because it belongs to the female lead. However, I can sense that her system isn’t very experienced. As for how many she has or what their functions are, I can’t find out. I’m sorry, Host."
The Godly Rich System felt quite guilty for failing to help Chloe. After all, she had bound herself to three systems simultaneously just so all three of them could secure a host quickly and complete their missions. Where else could they find such a hardworking host?
"Godly Rich System, you don’t need to apologize. It’s fine. You’ve already helped me a lot." Hearing the guilt in the system’s voice, Chloe offered her comfort. Having a system to help her was already a blessing; she wouldn’t dream of blaming it.
