"Brooke, your score is perfect! The only scores that don’t show are the perfect ones."

Alice Cole’s words made Brooke York’s heart, which had just sunk, soar with hope. ’A perfect score?’

A wave of joy washed over her, but it was quickly followed by a sense of unease. ’I skipped one of the exams. Could it be that since I got perfect scores on all the others, it doesn’t matter that I missed one?’

The reporters heard Alice Cole and immediately dropped their interview with Chloe York, swarming over to Brooke York instead.

The group of them rushed up to Brooke York. "Brooke, did you get a perfect score on every subject? Are these the results you just looked up?"

Before Brooke York could even react, Alice Cole stepped in front of her and answered for her, "That’s right. Our Brooke got a perfect score on every single subject."

The gasps of surprise from the banquet attendees were even louder than when Chloe York’s score had been revealed.

From across the crowd, Brooke York shot a triumphant look at Chloe York. Their eyes met.

A perfect score? Chloe York refused to believe it!

Just then, Alice Cole’s phone rang. She pulled it out, and her face lit up with joy when she saw the caller was Mr. Parker.

"Everyone, look! Brooke’s homeroom teacher is calling me. He’s definitely calling to announce that our Brooke is the top scorer, with perfect marks across the board."

With that, Alice Cole answered the phone smugly.

"Hello, Mr. Parker! This is Brooke’s mother. Are you calling to tell me about her score?" Alice Cole asked, jumping in before Mr. Parker could even get a word in.

"Yes, and I also need to discuss Chloe’s results."

"Fine, Mr. Parker. We already know Chloe’s score, but we don’t know Brooke’s yet. Why don’t you tell us Brooke’s score first?" After speaking, Alice Cole deliberately put the phone on speaker for everyone to hear.

Seeing Alice Cole’s behavior, the other guests glanced at Chloe and Miles York. It seemed their assumption that the York Family still cared for Chloe, their non-biological daughter, was mistaken.

Alice Cole’s actions clearly showed her favoritism toward her biological daughter, as well as her particular dislike for Chloe York, the "fake heiress."

Miles York noticed the others’ gazes and cursed inwardly at Alice Cole. ’What kind of stunt is she pulling now? Can’t she even try to hide her dislike for Chloe?!’

But Alice Cole, solely focused on securing a victory for her daughter, completely missed Miles York’s warning glance and failed to notice the looks from the other guests.

Mr. Parker could hear the joy in Alice Cole’s voice and was puzzled. ’Isn’t Brooke York supposed to be her biological daughter?’

’Why does she sound so happy that her own daughter got a zero on every subject?!’

’Could it be she actually cares more for her non-biological daughter, Chloe, and is happy that Chloe achieved such a great score?’

"Mrs. Cole, about Brooke’s scores... you’ve probably seen them. I truly didn’t expect her to get a score like this... I—"

Before Mr. Parker could finish, Alice Cole jumped in, "Mr. Parker, you don’t have to say it. You were surprised, and so was I."

"Yes. That’s why I think a score like this is inseparable from her relationship with her parents. Whatever issues parents have between them, they shouldn’t let it affect their child."

Alice Cole finally sensed something was wrong. "Mr. Parker, what are you trying to say? Our Brooke got perfect scores on everything. How could any issue between her parents possibly affect her?"

As soon as the words left her mouth, a thought seemed to strike Alice Cole. She quickly added, "Mr. Parker, don’t tell me... you mean our Brooke did even *better* than a perfect score? Her score can go even higher?"

"Ma’am, who told you that Brooke got a perfect score on everything?"

"I looked it up myself! Don’t they say that scores that aren’t displayed are perfect scores?" Alice Cole remembered reading that online, so when she saw that Brooke’s results weren’t showing, she’d instinctively assumed it was because she had a perfect score.

"Brooke got zeros on everything!" Mr. Parker’s voice was now laced with exasperation and anger.

He couldn’t fathom what Brooke York had been thinking. At such a crucial time, to get a score like this... ’Her results on the first and second mock exams had been decent, hadn’t they?’

"What? Zeros on everything!"

"Impossible! Absolutely impossible! How could Brooke get zeros? Our Brooke is going to get into the best university, she’s going to be the top scorer! She couldn’t possibly..."

Before Alice Cole could finish, Brooke York snatched the phone from her. "Sir, you’re joking, right? How could I get a zero on every subject? I only skipped one exam. How could I get zeros on all of them? It’s impossible."

Brooke York shook her head as she spoke, as if in complete disbelief that she could have gotten zeros.

"Yes, you did miss one exam, and that subject is a zero. As for why *every* subject is a zero, it’s because you scribbled nonsense on every single test. You wrote English on your math paper. On your English paper, you wrote answers for a different subject. You didn’t write the correct answers for the corresponding subject on a single one of your tests. Do you understand?"

Brooke York didn’t hear anything Mr. Parker said after that. Her face was ashen. She had gotten a zero on every subject. She had actually gotten a zero on every single subject.

The reporters scrambled to take pictures of Brooke York and Alice Cole. They had recorded everything. This was going to be a huge scoop.

They thought it was a story about a perfect score, but it turned out to be all zeros. How could this not be a massive scandal?

Alice Cole didn’t dare to say another word, but Mr. Parker was still speaking. "Although Brooke’s scores weren’t good, Chloe’s results are excellent. She’s this year’s top scorer for the college entrance exams, with the highest score of 749."

"Thank you, Mr. Parker. We know."

"Alright. Have Chloe think carefully about which school she wants to attend. In the next few days, many universities will be calling you or even visiting your home to recruit her. Soon, the entire banquet hall had emptied out, leaving only the four of them behind.

Chloe York had no intention of staying long either. After all, there was no point in her being there.

She turned to leave without a word, and Miles York said nothing to stop her.

"Alice Cole, this is the ’good daughter’ you raised? You’ve utterly humiliated me."

Once everyone was gone, Miles York turned on Alice Cole.

"You’re blaming me? What right do you have to blame me? Brooke wasn’t raised by us. She only just came back. She has both of our blood in her. If we’re pointing fingers, then we’re both to blame."
