Chapter 214 - 213: Divine Blessing
A plane soared to an altitude of 10,000 meters, streaking across the sky and weaving through the clouds.
Yvonne Lowell was nestled in Leo Grant’s arms, listlessly gazing at the ever-changing clouds outside the window.
Leo Grant popped a cherry that Warren Lynch had just brought over into her mouth and said,
"Once you’re done handling things here, should we head straight back to Kingsland?"
"Sure. We’ve been away for a while anyway, and I’m actually starting to miss Old Man Lowell and Ms. Sutton," Yvonne Lowell replied, chewing and swallowing the cherry.
Yvonne Lowell had been in Continent R for some time now. Besides occasionally being forced to handle the work they shoved her way, she would also pop over to The Shadow Pavilion’s fighting ring to beat up some newbies. She even went to the Prefecture to torment her "dear" brother and sister-in-law and her two "wonderful" nephews for a few days.
Their original plan had been to return to Kingsland in a few days anyway. A few days ago, Yvonne Lowell had Alan Knight come and pick up the Leogryph, because Leo Grant predicted that his old man’s resentment from being a wage slave was about to erupt.
During this time, Yvonne Lowell also realized something she’d missed—the real reason Leo Grant had stayed at The Shadow Pavilion for so long was to slack off and avoid work.
Leo Grant was a lot like Yvonne Lowell; he delegated all of The Shadow Pavilion’s trivial matters to a few trusted subordinates, leaving very few major issues that required his personal decision.
Back in Kingsland, he used to be busy with work for The Grants from morning till night, often having to work overtime. But during his time at The Shadow Pavilion, his workday was no more than three hours long.
He would only work for a few hours after dinner each day. During the daytime, he was either pestering Yvonne Lowell with his antics or off tormenting the Leogryph.
Who wouldn’t be shocked to see it? The chosen one of all wage slaves had actually betrayed the god of work and learned how to slack off!
Mr. Grant: ...I can’t believe this is the kind of son you are. Give me back my retirement vacation!!
’Young Grant, don’t look, this is a hate comment!!!’
The main reason for this long trip was to accompany Yvonne Lowell on her business, as Zachary Jacobs had found clues related to Brown.
Zachary Jacobs had said from the beginning that Brown was hiding deep and was definitely not as simple as he appeared on the surface.
When the bombing incident came to light, Brown and his trusted assistant, who was always with him, vanished from the villa into thin air, disappearing without a trace.
He didn’t even show up to save The Brown Family when they were ostracized from aristocratic circles, simply abandoning his family.
Later, Leon sent people to search the villa thoroughly, but they found no secret passages or basements. Nothing inside was missing, except for those two people.
Therefore, they speculated that one of them must be a Space Superpower User. Following this line of inquiry, they actually managed to dig something up.
Zachary Jacobs and his men watched surveillance footage for several days and finally found traces of Brown being smuggled out of the country.
Brown and his confidant had fled to Country S and were involved with a local cult. Or rather, he had always been an influential member of that organization, someone with a significant say.
Present-day Country S was still rife with smoke and war, overrun by various separatist forces and anti-government armed groups. Conflicts erupted daily, making it a country Yvonne Lowell had visited once and never wished to set foot in again.
The structure of Brown’s organization was somewhat similar to the group of brainless idiots Yvonne Lowell had encountered before in Country X. [See Chapter 68 for details, mwah~]
However, they had more superpower users under their command, unlike the organization in Country X, which only had one.
And unlike the group in Country X that pursued eternal life, this one had gathered a few malicious, third-rate superpower users to go out and wreak havoc on ordinary people.
They had these superpower users show off their pathetic, unimpressive abilities in front of ordinary people, claiming that as long as one wholeheartedly obeyed the Saint Heir (the organization’s leader) and completed all instructions from the gods, they too could receive a divine blessing and obtain the same Divine Power.
When Yvonne Lowell saw the message from Zachary Jacobs, Leo Grant was right beside her. After they both finished reading, they wore the exact same speechless expression.
’Seriously, if only Country S wasn’t so keen on fighting wars and spent a little money fixing their signal towers so its people could get online more, they wouldn’t be so easily brainwashed.’
’Or they could learn from Aurelia’s anti-fraud app and develop an anti-brainwashing app specifically for Country S. They’d probably have a lot fewer deaths by the end of the year.’
’She could accept comparing superpowers to Divine Power, but if you were to call it some bullshit blessing, Yvonne Lowell would be the first to disagree.’
’If superpowers were really a blessing from the gods, then what about the power she gained only after teetering on the brink of death multiple times? What about the power she gained from soaking in all those medicinal baths, each time enduring pain so intense she felt like a dead dog?’
’Was she just unlucky? Did the gods of Country S just fail to get a visa, so they couldn’t cross borders to bless her?’
’Are you kidding me?’
’If there really were gods in this world, then her only god would be herself.’
...
The moment the plane landed, Yvonne Lowell, who had been dozing against Leo Grant, opened her eyes right on cue and sat up.
Leo Grant raised an eyebrow, his tone teasing. "A little early this time. I haven’t even stretched my hand out yet."
He hadn’t forgotten the first time Yvonne Lowell rode in his car. He’d only half-extended his hand before she’d grabbed it, on high alert.
Yvonne Lowell, who was tying up her hair, paused and shot him an annoyed glare. "Oh, thank you so much for complimenting my vigilance."
’How many times had we even met back then? Wasn’t it normal for me to be on guard? It was a good thing I didn’t subconsciously snap his paw in half.’
’Now we’re already sleeping in the same bed, and he’s still bringing up ancient history.’
As soon as the cabin door opened, Ian Lynch and Warren Lynch saw a massive crowd of people standing below. They were all in uniform combat suits, with a slight bulge at their waists.
Standing at the head of the group were a man and a woman. They remembered the man; his name was Felix Knight, the best fighter among Miss Lowell’s four confidants.
As for the woman... though they didn’t recognize her, her status was clear from the fact that she was standing shoulder-to-shoulder with Felix Knight. They guessed she was the one confidant they had never met back at Moonshadow.
The two subconsciously exchanged a glance. ’Their master only brought the two of us this time. If he makes Miss Lowell unhappy, can the two of us win against them?’
’When the time comes, should we go through the motions and take a beating before running, or just run straight away?’
Yvonne Lowell didn’t notice their complicated thoughts and simply bypassed the two of them, jumping down from the plane.
Leo Grant, however, shot them a slightly disdainful glance before following her down.
’Looks like I really need to take these kids out to see the world more often. To think they could be scared by this.’
Ian Lynch and Warren Lynch: ◡ヽ(`Д´)ノ┻━┻
"Master, Mr. Grant."
Felix Knight and Regan Knight took a few steps forward and bowed slightly to greet the pair.
"Mm, let’s go." Yvonne Lowell nodded and then pulled Leo Grant straight ahead.
Finally, they boarded a bulletproof SUV and sped off, escorted by several other vehicles.
